Is it possible to get new ones of these? Can't seem to find one anywhere.

Re: Late 122 blower motor... (akaturbo)

No doubt somebody has a new one stashed away but either won't sell it or does not have a presence on the www.

Here is a used one of unknown condition...

...which you may need to rebuild before installation.

I have found other sites that claim to have new motors but they usually require a phone call to a bogus toll-free number.

Over the years I have "reconditioned" more than five of these babies with very good results. Today it is not easy to find a skilled person to re-wind the electric motor. Also, the fan must be perfectly balanced or it will vibrate on "High".

Do you have a rebuildable unit?

The most common problem is just bearings gummed up with old dirt and oil. I'd spray them out thoroughly with WD40, shake all that out, and then lube with a light household oil, like 3-in-1 or equivalent.

Or you might find that the whole heater box is full of old mouse nests...

No mouse nests but tons of pine needles from the previous owner living up in the mountains.

I cleaned it out pretty well and lubed it up again but still doesn't want to spin for me. Lot easier to spin by hand now though. Gonna ask around tomorrow and see if there's any locals that can take a look at it.

This is not rocket science!
Get your meter and make sure the windings have continuity and are not shorted. Make sure the brushes make contact with the commutator. Make sure the bearings are clean and lubed with light (NOT penetrating!) oil.
If everything is hooked up OK it should work fine.

Re: Late 122 blower motor... (akaturbo)

I looked into using a new aftermarket motor meant for AC systems on cars on an 1800. While they, except for the real early ones, have push on lugs, the 122's Ive seen have the rires coming out of a hole in the cover. The 1800's also used a plastic blower that after sitting on that shaft for 30 plus years won't come off in one piece. From the one I have the blower one is metal and has a set screw. I purchased a new motor and blower. The motor is a three speed unit and I want to compare the air flow output of the stock unit against it. The old type should be an easy replacement with this motor, while the 1800 will require some work.

Here's a link to a source.
