In the last few weeks she has not been able to put the car in to Drive without de-activating the overdrive. Once she has it out of park and into reverse or Drive she can re-activate the overdrive and everything is fine.
I do not think it is a problem with the transmission being that the OD is electronic in the 940, but I could be wrong.
You are correct the shifter will not move from "P" to the "D" postion without de-activating the Overdriver. On this model there was a button on the shifter that if you push it would disable the 4th gear electronic over drive. If that is de-activated then you can move the shifter out of "P".
It acts as if you do not have the brake pedel pressed, but I have watched here, and tried myslef and we both have our foot on the brake.
There could be a problem with the brake interlock transmission switch, which is a problem in the 900 series cars. Since the overdrive is electronic, I don't see how it could cause a problem like you are describing. Hmmm...
You can check to see if it is the inter lock mechanism by putting you finger in the bristled path near the back (by the 1) there is a manual release that you can pull up. Once this is released the car should shift from park. The overdrive circuit from what I can tell is totally separate from the shift interlock. The transmission should have no bearing as I do not use the stock transmission and the interlock still operates properly.
