I have an 88 740 that I was towing motorcycle trailer with and just bought an S60 2.4T. Just wondering what the HP numbers are supposed to be for the old car as a reference point.
If you just want the non-turbo B230F engine, try to get one from a 240 if you can. It will be easier to put it in another 240. The 740 had the distributor mounted on the back of the head, and it's driven by the camshaft. In the 240, there's not enough room between the back of the engine and the firewall for the distributor, which is why it uses a block mounted one driven by the intermediate shaft. Using a 740 engine would involve changing the distributor to the 240 style, which I don't think is very difficult, but gathering the parts might be a hassle.
No, the 8V B230F and B230FT used a head mounted distributor in the 740. That configuration will not fit in a 240, so you must change to a block mounted distributor.
