I wanted to start a Thread on what modifications some of us plan on doing with our Polestars.
For me, I am a bit disappointed the V60 Polestar does not come with tint from the factory, at least at the rear/side windows--like on an SUV.
Can anyone recommend a highly reputable tint shop in the Lancaster/York area? With a wagon, is the PA 35% limit still applicable on the rear window and rear side windows or can it be darker like on an SUV? I have never had a car tinted before. Also, nowadays they do not have to remove any door panels to install the tint, correct?
I also would like to replace the halogen license plate bulbs with LED (assuming the 2015.5 MY still use halogen bulbs), but I have no idea which LED bulbs to get online that will not cause any issues. Any recommendations?
Since my V60 Polestar does come with tint from the factory, I've got one point less to worry about.
I changed a LOT on my 2008 Audi TTS and almost every modifications brought some negative aspects with it. So I am not planning to modify my V60 Polestar.
The only thing I probably will change are those yellow, old looking cockpit lights. I saw some really nice, white LED on a V60 Polestar demo car. (unfortunately, my dealer said this was just for exhibition)
And now you mention it, I will probably change the license plate bulbs as well.
But thats about it. An original car is always more worth than one with modifications if it comes to selling. Besides, every thing you change on this car performance wise is going to be a crime, you can just make it worse. I'm curious how long it takes, till someone wants to change the Ohlins suspension for a KW Suspensions...
I'm guessing that Polestar will have a kit to boost horsepower. They added a new turbo and only got 30 hp out of it. I'm guessing they easily could have gotten more if not constrained by maintaining stock fuel economy per Volvo. Then again it may be the transmission cannot handle more power. It also may not be worth their while do develop a kit which only has 120 potential customers Fun to dream though!
To be honest, I think US customers don't exactly know what we get! Some say we will get roof rails, others/pictures indicate we won't.
Do we get a sunroof?
LED bulbs?
Tint?
I'm pretty sure everything I will do to the car will be mostly cosmetic stuff. Here are my plans so far:
1. K&N air filter (assuming it doesn't already come with a high flow filter)
2. Turbo key chain for my key fob. I was thinking one of these: http://www.turbokeychains.com/
3. Magnetic RVA sticker for tailgate to let everyone know I'm from Richmond.
4. I'm considering an "OPPO" sticker too: https://www.etsy.com/listing/164362550/oppo-vinyl-sticker-opposite-lock-decal
5. And for the final flourish, I'm going to get some of those faux Ferrari shields for the sides-the ones with the moose in it. Those will likely be magnetic, too because I don't want to put adhesive stickers on the paint: http://www.davebarton.com/VolvoPrancingMoose.html.
The prancing moose stickers may only be there when I park it. I kind of want the option to have it or not because I really don't want to overdo it. What do you guys think? Too much? Too little? The idea of a fast wagon just seems so funny to me, like something most people won't really get so I feel like I can get away with making it a little comical.

It'll be comical enough knowing that those who are standing still at 50mph thanks to a smurf ass blue Volvo wagon have no clue what hit them. I don't know that the accouterments really add much.
Do we know what the smallest compatible diameter wheel for this car will be, assuming a properly chosen offset? I'd really prefer to use something cheaper for winter use... maybe a good 18" setup?
I was amazed to see this thread already ... I couldn't imagine what there was to discuss in that no one has it yet. But the thread has been very illuminating already. It has got me thinking.
I could add the sunroof for free - but this is not helping you guys.
As far as I know, you cant go smaller than 19" because of the Brembos (18" wont fit over the breakes). Polestar will offer a winter rims/tyre combination later. My dealer will tell me as soon as he finds out.
@hensoje
Please dont do the moose ferrar thing. I honestly think it is just embarassing.
Sorry Foxy. Where in Switzerland? My wife and I visited your beautiful country a few weeks ago when we did Euro Delivery on my M4. We stayed in St. Moritz.
I wish we could opt out of the sunroof. Less weight and more headroom
The 19" Polestar Edition winter wheel setup is listed as an accessory (not an option) at 2,995 Euro in the Netherlands, that's about USD 4,000 ... sunroof however is an option in the Netherlands too, you either select it ... or not on the order sheet.
I don't know on these Polestar models but on my 2015 V60 R-Design the license plate lights were still regular bulbs, changed it into two eBay sourced LED units:
Didn't cost too much and it is a five minute job, you just need a torx bit to unscrew the holders.

Yeah from my search, I think I found your post about these LEDs, but if my memory serves, you had them in your desk drawer for a few years and forgot where/whom you bought them from on eBay. There are tons of LED options on eBay, but I would prefer someone to direct me to the exact ones that work without any problems
I don't particularly care for them myself. I'd try like hell to find anything but a factory winter option as it'll put quite a bit of money back in my pocket.
Guys, believe me, 18" WONT fit over the brembos. I have D2 Racing brakes on my TTS in 356mm. They go with 18". The 370mm brembos from the Polestar needs 19".
Okay I'm looking for opinions on tint for my black V60 Polestar.
Please keep in mind, I have never had a car tinted before, so I'm not the typical tint customer; however, I feel a wagon or SUV looks better with at a minimum of tint on the rear.
I'm schedule for tint this Sat. Was trying to get "CB" with his black V60 from Lancaster to get tint at the same time, but the guy is booked. He will also be going to Auto Graphics in Manheim.
So, the guy at the tint shop recommended 18% rear (rear windows/hatch) and 35% front (driver/passenger windows). My goal is not to have it looked pimped out, but more classy and how it should look from the factory. Regardless of whatever % tint, I think I would prefer the same % on all windows--however, I obviously will not get 18% on the front. I was thinking 25% all around? But I'm also questioning whether I want the front windows done at all.
Do you guys like tint all around or just the back? 1st pic just the back
This is a swedish Polestar. In most european countrys, tinting the front (and front side) windows is not allowed. I think this also counts for sweden. So the V60 Polestar in this pic has just tinted rear (and rear side) windows.
Hey Kief, I did Ceramic tint on my XC60 RD with 50% up front. I personally don't like the look of just the rear tinted (your first pic) so this way it's a more unified look. It's definitely darker in the front but not so much that po-po would stop and notice).
The rears were already tinted from factory so I tinted the rears enough to get the same heat and UV blocking.
That too dark "murdered out" look is not my speed.
Thanks for the pic. That gives me a good idea of the difference between a very dark rear and a lesser % front to prevent po-po stops!
I agree, I'm thinking no tint on the front may be too drastic. Your factory tint is very dark, I imagine that is what 18% would look like on my rear and 25-35% on the front if I went with the tint guy's recommendation
