No. Part of the character of the car is RB based on the whole sweden and polestar thing. Plus, black is an incredible pain to clean. It is a good color, and it is honest about the spirit of the car. I would never normally choose this color, but after giving it some thought it seemed the right thing to do. It has also really grown on me as I see it more. People take notice, which I've never experienced. Pulling into a biker bar off a mountain road the other day and some dude in a silver pearl Gallardo actually rolled down his window and told me how cool this car looked.
I agree, I love back cars, had several in the past, but 3 factors cam into my decision 1) Its a polestar, and 'their' colour is RB 2) Black is a royal pain in the ase to keep clean, and requires time, which I don't have 3) black is 'very' popular at the moment.
RB it is for me....I alike it to the old V70R editions in that pale yellow, very rare and sought after now, in part due to the colour.
To be perfectly honest, I would have taken either one. I told the dealer I didn't care as long as I got one, although I preferred a BSM. It worked out that I got a BSM, the gentleman who had my car, decided on a RB, the GM of the dealership found him one, and I got his. Happy ending!
It does sort of suck that Rebel Blue isn't unique to the Polestar. It would have been super-exclusive if they went with one-off colors instead of the standard ones. The Mrs calls Rebel Blue "Polestar Blue", which obviously isn't accurate.
I agree, you all should have a different unique color, but leave the rebel blue to the RD's where it originated and belongs. I believe the "Polestar blue" is a brighter, perhaps lighter blue..see the badge and Polestar racing cars and prototypes.
I agree and I think volvo screwed that one up. .. But since the agreement to build the limited edition polestar cars, you cannot get a rebel blue car other than those. Or at least in the states that is true
Actually, for 2015, you can order a Rebel Blue S60/V60 R-Design and if you really like Rebel Blue but don't want AWD, you could get a V60 T5 Drive-E, or S60 T6 Drive-E with the 19" Bor wheels, Sport suspension (R-Design) and get the Beechwood brown with the sport seat interior ... not that I was looking into OSD alternatives for a rare combo to have here in the U.S. For 2016, Rebel Blue will be limited to R-Design and Polestar models.
No, what makes them unique is more than just color and winglets, "it's what's inside that counts." The stiffer springs and bushings, the trick Ohlins suspension parts, the software Polestar came up with for tranny, Haldex, and engine, the active exhaust, etc. The 250 parts unique to this car is what sets it apart from a RD, most of them you can't see. I could slap an AMG badge on a Kia or for that matter a Polestar badge and put front splitters on it. I can buy a replica Rolex, you get the idea, they won't be the real thing. I see your point, someone could make a Polestar replica, there's not that much visually that sets it apart from a RD, which is fine, because it's when you drive it that you understand what a Polestar is all about. Given a free rein, Polestar could have given us a little more HP, Volvo dictated that it have the same MPG as a RD, Polestar spent their engineering expertise on software and suspension, and it show's.
As a fan of the Rebel Blue color (I'm getting that on my V60 P*) I have to say that despite the fact that it is offered on the regular V60 R-design, I think there is still a pretty low take rate on that color. So I think it will still be "special" in that you won't see many Volvos in that color in general. I have probably seen a total of 2 RB colored Volvos ever, so I'm not worried about my car looking unique. I think it will still turn heads. Just my two cents.
+1. I have never seen RB or Polestar Blue in person yet anyone who has a Polestar Blue car will have one that is pretty unique. The wheels are another obvious clue that this is a limited production car.
You are counting on color only. You are not going to sell me here. There are plenty of S and M models that happily share colors, to suggest it is not unique only because they share color is absurd. Many people, like us, who might or might not matter, see those models and immediately know the difference.
I look at the cars you posted and I see zero similarities to my car aside from the color. The wheels, spoilers, bumper, diffusers, window trims, mirror caps, brakes, badging, the list goes on and on.
BMW has a white M5 and my buddy bought one. There is a white 550. Should he be pissed?
Not a Polestar owner, unfortunately, but my local newspaper featured an article on the Polestar about the same time as I bought my RB RD. I could not and still cannot convince the average person who read that article that my car is dramatically different.
As an educator, I keep trying to insist that I bought my car solely for safety and reliability. The color says something else to the uninformed.
The Polestar is special because it's a incredibly adept car. The styling ques are just enough to set it off from a RD, but not draw undue attention. And for me that's perfectly fine. And I think that was Volvo's/Polestar's intention, stock MPG, all the standard safety features, world class handling, put every usable HP to the ground with a world class suspension. I love this car.
The RB S60P is still at Park Place. The RB V60P is in Fort Worth
