Where in Canada are you located? I'm going mine at 5000km because i feel that 12000km is too long for a first oil change, my A5 2.0T had it's first service at 3000km
I plan on changing the oil after the first 1K miles to capture any "new" debris.
Then every 3K after, as I did with my '04 V70R. At 80K+ it never used any oil between changes.
I'm convinced the quality of the oil and frequency of changes kept its motor in great shape.
Yeah I'm changing mine after 1,000 miles. This is the fifth engine I have broken in and it is always interesting to see how much metal fleck you get on that first change. It varies, a lot.
I was always told that a person shouldn't use synthetic until at least 5000 miles because the engine is not broken in and rings sealed and that Mobil 1 for instance would prevent any further wear in and seating of parts because of its superior lubrication??? Maybe they come with synthetic though nowadays which would blow a hole in that idea...any thoughts. I'm also probably talking quite a few years ago to...showing my age. I'm in Toronto area as well with S60P 1800 klms..and stored away for winter.
I ask this oil change question because I have heard that car manufacturers put an additive in the oil to assist with the breaking in of the new engine so changing the oil before its scheduled time is not recommended.
The car is delivered with oil appropriate for Volvo's determined service schedule. No abracadabra. It is all in the manual which comes with the car.
People who are willing to throw away money on unneeded oil changes make this decision themselves. These decisions are based on information dating back to the 50's of last century or sometimes on non scientific based emotions.
For the driver there is no real break in procedure apart from taking it easy for the first couple of miles. All other just drive the car like you normally would in every day traffic. This is what the car has been made for. To much computer control going on around an engine nowadays for the driver to do any harm.
Many tests have been performed by the fabricator to make sure the customer experience is as effortless as possible. If not warranty comes in to play.
Absolutely!! To each his own...just wanted to see the many opinions out there.
