The common phrases were "Wow", and "This is a Volvo?!?"
We took the car through the back roads of Greenwich, CT, which accounted for hills and curves, and straightaways. Long story short, impressed is an understatement. He raved about the interior, the handling, of course the exhaust, and how fun it was to drive. Not surprising coming from a Porsche dealer, the P* is a lot of car for only $62k.
We went by a cop on a corner doing about 49 in a 25, and luckily he wasn't paying attention. If we were in a GT3, we definitely would have been pinched. Love this car more and more...
I was screaming along lower wacker drive in Chicago with the exhaust open, blew right past a cop, he heard me and pulled up to investigate the Mitsubishi Evo who was at the light next to me, when he caught up.
I hit Lower Wacker last weekend with my sons in the back...such a blast.
I was driving up Clark the other day and got stopped at the light right in front of the Perillo BMW dealership. My buddy nudges me and goes, "Your car is popular with the BMW sales guys." Sure enough I look over and there are like eight guys with cheesey ties pressed against the glass staring at me...in a Volvo.
I love hearing these stories. I had another thumbs up interaction yesterday at a 3-way stop sign. A guy in a new (Lipstick Red) Audi S3 saw me pull up, and immediately knew it was a P*. These reactions are awesome vs. seeing some of the "salty" comments from the peanut gallery in car and driver, etc. Let's hope our values will hold up well due to the limited exclusivity factor of this awesome vehicle.
This is my 9th Volvo and by far the best one. I had to laugh at some of the comments in Car and Driver and Road and Track, all from people who have never driven one and never will, they have no idea how capable this car is. Personally I think the "too expensive" V60P is a bargain for what you get, a supremely capable car in all conditions. Is it perfect? No car is. I would have loved a manual option. That would have made it "perfect" for me, but I don't mind the Auto in the P* and coming from someone who has always had manuals, that is actually high praise.
On a side note, I lived in Rowayton for 14 yrs. before moving to Seattle. I lived right near the Bell Island bridge on 51 Sammis St. I have fond memories of that town, I loved it there.
First Volvo for me, and first auto tranny. The tranny programming is pretty good, but rev matching on downshifts would be nice. The upshifts happen quickly but the downshifts upset the chassis a bit at times. Rev matching would eliminate that. I wonder if it can be added with additional programming or if there is a hardware limitation. Other than that, I have no real complaints. Brakes and handling are great, and there's enough power to get into trouble. The only other thing I'd add to my wishlist is a limited slip diff in the front. I've had some inside wheel spin coming out of tight corners with the tc off.
Yup, Haldex and similar systems that lock together are really awesome. All modern Lambos with AWD are Haldex. So is the Bugatti Veyron. The new 991 Porsche 911 AWD models use Haldex. I could go on...
Nissan's AWD system (used on the insane GTR) isn't Haldex but the operation is basically identical, an electronic clutch that locks the two axles together.
I just wish the programming instructions would be made available/transparent, but I doubt any manufacturer will want that proprietary information floating around. I've been trying to get it for 10+ years to no avail.
How Haldex V works
This generation allowes to (pre) activate the AWD, like Polestar Offical told us, in ESC OFF for example it's 50/50 from standing still up to 160km/h.
Perhaps this forum should be renamed "Questions regarding Haldex operations".
