Hello,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Long-time lurker, and the information and enthusiasm on this forum were significant factors in getting me to join the club. I purchased #8 of 80, a preowned V60 P* BSM about a week ago. Literally my last 15+ car purchases have all been from German manufacturers, so it is fair to say I have my biases much like the departed Kief (see, I have been reading). Having never owned a Volvo (nor Saab or Koenigsegg), I didn't know what to expect, but my initial conclusion differs from his final one (and I don't expect to have a change of heart). I am really impressed with this car. The chassis is truly exceptional, as many owners and the automotive media have repeatedly stated. As the big 3 in Germany chase volume and profits, each new product seems to deviate more from the driver oriented foundation in which they started and built a loyal base like me with. Sure, there are hot rod models posting gaudy statistics, but there is a numbness and lack of driver connectivity that continues to creep in. This Volvo has brought me back a decade, and that's a good thing! The lack of noteworthy wagons/estates/avants/whatever from Germany was another push away...they exist as we all know, but this niche market leaves me skeptical we'll ever see one in the US. I'm more than happy with what Volvo HAS brought since the rest of the dynamics on the Polestar are great too...nice sound, robust inline-6, wonderful brakes, and just a tremendous all-round package. The tranny seems to be the bottle neck when it comes to potential, but it isn't a bad gearbox. I'm just wondering what the car would be like if it had a dual clutch, 8 spd auto like BMW's, or better yet, a manual. It is solid in this application and won't limit the fun. My 2 yr old daughter went on her maiden voyage in it yesterday, and she seemed to love it...with her in my life, the Volvo made even more sense. Not to mention it easily gobbled up all my Costco product yesterday as I tried to fulfill every Volvo wagon stereotype imaginable.
I am in Minneapolis, so if anyone else is in the area, feel free to PM me. I will definitely post from time-to-time, so thanks in advance for allowing me to contribute.
