So today I had the pleasure of going to start my car and being greeted with a click and a Check Engine light. The engine didn't even attempt to turn over. All screens came on as normal with the Check Engine being the only error showing. I turned everything off and tried again....Same result. Waited maybe 30 seconds and tried a 3rd time and it fired right up, with no errors showing. Car is now with Volvo, not be looked at until tomorrow.
Just heard back. They are still doing diagnostics but have not found any issues. They think the issue could be caused by signal interference of having my key and cell phone in the same pocket, which I do on occasion. I did have an issue last week where my doors would not unlock with my key in my pocket, so it is possible the two are related. If this is the answer and it's as simple as keeping my key separate from my phone, I can handle that. I have a beautiful looking brand new Blue XC60 loaner, but a day with a T5 sure makes you appreciate the P* that much more.
Got my car back. Key signal interference is what the final diagnosis is. All system checks were good. All checks with Volvo Technical Support turned up nothing beyond the key interference. The more complicated systems get, the easier it is to make them not work. Hopefully this is the end of it.
On the positive side of things, it only took about 10 feet of driving in the P* to put a giant grin back on my face. You really do take this car for granted driving it everyday. The sounds and acceleration are obviously intoxicating, but the thing that always becomes clearer after driving another car is how well planted the P* is. It just feels like it is glued to the ground, which makes you want to keep pushing it. I love this car!
Good to hear it was simply that. Easy to keep your key fob away from your phone.
Heh, so did you fly out of the dealership in Sport mode? Remind them and you how good a Polestar sounds. I did that after attending their XC90 event this evening. Apparently the road show is at Palo Alto Volvo tomorrow evening. The corporate and regional reps are there so it's a good opportunity to say hi and chat about the Polestar partnership.
I did fly out of there, just happy to be back in my car but not in Sport mode. I wasn't in S mode to be polite but now I realize I was being the opposite in depriving all the Volvo employees in the back of that sweet P* exhaust note. I will not make that mistake in the future.
On a side note, I did drive around with a tech trying to pinpoint the clicking noise I have been hearing (which may not be the mirrors after all) and he is apparently an '06 S60R owner and member on here. Asked him to join us for Canepa on the 13th. I think the clicking noise may be coming from the plastic clip on the windshield, so I just put some felt on it last night to see if that eliminates the noise.
I've had similar rare occurrences happen with my 9-5 Aero XWD. Never got an explanation???
