I may be getting a free, yes $0, 1986 740 auto. It runs, is in good shape, great body, decent interior (cracked dash, of course), good suspension and engine. But the tranny is toast.
Just wondering on your opinions of my options and some ideas on cost.
1. Rebuild/repair
2. Pick up a tranny from the dismantlers and stick it in
3. Run. Quickly.
The long term goal is a V8 conversion, but the mechanic I was going to take it to (he's done 10 of them so far) has stopped doing the Ford V-8 swaps, so I want to get the car on the road and use it for a few years while I save up and track down another mechanic who's willing to do the swap for me.
