Does anybody know if the tail lights for different years are interchangeable?
I just added a 87 760 to the family and am wondering if the "newer" 90+ style 740 tail lights are interchangeable.
The taillights from a '90-'92 744 can and have been put onto a pre-'90 744. It's just a matter of wiring, and I think you might need to notch a mounting hole or two. I don't remember exactly, but it's pretty close to a direct bolt-up, and then just trace the wiring on each and hook it up.
There are two types of the late model 700 series 3-row sedan taillights. The 760 version is about 3" longer. It uses the same circuit board/bulb holder, but the taillight extends about 3" further in, towards the license plate. The easiest way to identify the two types if they're not identified, or shown side by side with other taillights, is to look at where the seam between the turn signal and backup lens falls with regard to the red reflector below it. If that seam falls in the middle of the red reflector, it's the shorter 744 version. If that seam falls on a seam in the row below, it's the longer 764 version.
