Hello, I'm new here.
The 740 wagon (possibly turbo) interests me as it seems to fit most of my criteria for a daily driver: (on nicer days, and those without carrying 300lb clients, I drive The Miata)
low-cost
Decent mileage
Cargo space
comfort
reliability
and ease of repair/maintenance for average-skilled gear-head.
It need not be pretty-looking, just decent paint, minimal rust.
This OTM (Other Than Miata) role is currently filled by a 91' Maxima SE 5spd (GREAT car, btw). I don't expect a similar (4DSC) driving experience from a Volvo wagon (much less an auto-tranny), but I do expect comfort and utility.
You should know, I am used to working on Japanese cars (currently 3 of them in the stable) and I am VERY pleased with their reliability and ease of maintenance.
Am I totally misguided on any of the above impressions of the 740?
What trouble areas should I look-out for? Any other recommendations?
Any suggestions when comparing the 240 wagons?
I'd like a turbo and a manual, but I don't know if that combo is available. I have some experience with turbo motors and I like their potential for increased performance. Any special considerations regarding the turbo models?
