Ok I finally got ahold of my dream ride a '90 740 Turbo in mint shape...Jet black, 17" BFG's already on it...
The only problem is its auto...Im looking to convert it to a 5 speed manual...anybody got any suggestions? Where to p/u a used tranny, or find one that is easily compatible and relatively cheap? I picked the car up for $4000 with 179,000km on it so knowing volvo 740's thats pretty good...the turbo has already been replaced too.

How about suspension? Im looking at just dropping some lowering springs in there to give it the low pro look.

One other thing is Id like to get some body kits on it. Maybe a front spoiler or something good lookin...

The biggest issue is the tranny so if you have any suggestions for this along with the conversion $$$ pls let me know...
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Tricking out my 740 Turbo (740TurboBOOST)

No idea how much it would cost, but it can and has been done. Volvo's M46 and M47s, Borg-Warner T5s and Supra 5-speeds have been used. There is tons of info about the swap on the Turbobricks site.

Shox.com has good shock and spring packages at reasonable prices.

Re: Tricking out my 740 Turbo (740TurboBOOST)

There is a lot that can be done to your car to add performance. I'll try to help out as much as I can. If you haven't checked out http://www.ipdusa.com, thats probably the best place to start in my opinion. As far as transmission swaps go, many have been done, the m46 and m47 cam stock with your motor, so swapping those in should be relatively straight forward. Ford t5 trans swaps are becoming *somewhat* easier with adapter parts becoming more common. As i think was previously said, I think supra trans swaps are also possible. If i were you, and i was not planning on shooting for more than about 250 hp, id go with an m46 or m47. If you know you want more power than that, t5 is probably your best bet as from what i hear, the m46 is gonna be a little iffy above 250-300 hp.
If you want body kits. Try http://www.brickstylz.com/ never dealt with them personally, but the other option is paying rediculous shipping from sweden, or making your own.
Engine upgrades are available. Though lots of stuff is obviously not readily available like chevy 350 stuff at a plave like baxters. try heading over to http://www.turbobricks.org for more info on getting more horsepower out of your turbo motor. There is tons of info over there, and not to sound like a broken record, but if you use search, especially on a large site like t bricks, you'll find more info on increasing horsepower for your particular car than you can shake a stick at.
If there is anything else i can help with, shoot me an e-mail at volvowagn@hotmail.com. I was once new to volvos too, and it sure is nice to have people to point you in the right direction.

Re: Tricking out my 740 Turbo (740TurboBOOST)

You can find info on the conversion over at Brickboard.
http://brickboard.com/FAQ/700-...n.htm
Cost is going to depend on what it is going to cost you to buy the transmission, shifter and shift linkage, pedals, flywheel, transmission mount, driveshaft and the rear end. The reason I put in the rear end is your car has either a 3.91 or 4.10 with the auto which has a .69 OD
The manual transmission cars came with a 3.54 rear with the M46 and the 3.31 with the M47. If you swap the tranny with out changing the rear end you will be looking at 400 to 500 higher rpms at highway speed in OD with the manual over the auto you now have. I swapped out mine and it cost me 7 hours of labor and $1000 for everything I needed out of a salvage yard and $400 for a new clutch and clutch cable. One thing to remember there are three different length driveshafts. The M46, M47 and the AW71 all are different. From what I have heard the front half of the driveshaft is the different length section. But don't hold me to it since I found a complete set up in a yard still in the car and stripped it of everything I needed.
