I noticed the similar posting and answers from Feb about a auto-to-manual trans swap, and the related information was helpful, but I have a different situation and could use some advice.
My beloved stick shift 740 wagon with 210k is getting a little tired. Wanted a newer RWD wagon, but I really want stick shift. I have found, but not yet bought a nice '98 V90 wagon and am contemplating a trans swap. I will appolozize in advance for all the questions.....
Is it even possible to do the swap? I do not believe that the v90 was offered in USA with stick shift. Did it come with stick shift elsewhere?
Which transmission(s) would handle the 6's power?
Would any US-offered bell housing bolt up to the 6?
Will there be any transmission input shaft length/size problems?
Do I need a specific flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, etc. ?
Will the starter that came stock still bolt up OK? If not, which one will?
Does it matter whether I use a hydraulic or cable clutch "linkage" ?
Since the 6 is probably longer than the 4, will a stock drive shaft work (even with the different rear independent axle) or will I need a specific or modified model?
Any issues with the rubber U-joint or transmission mounts?
Will the engine computer get confused with a different transmission?
How about getting the interior trim to accommodate the shifter?
Any other issues to consider?
Many thanks to anyone who could offer some advice!!
Thanks, PJP
