Hello,
I just bought a '90 740 two weeks ago and it's got oil coming out of the oil fill cap, on top of the valve cover.
I was told this may be due to a blocked crankcase hose vent which is on the left side of the engine. I am totally clueless but willing to try to fix this dilemma, if it can be done easily.
Is the left side of the engine when you're driving it, or when you have the hood up & you're looking at it?
If this is something that's not easy to find & fix, I guess I can just live with it for a while.
BTW - this is my 2nd 740. The first one was an '88 and it was fantastic. After my son's first wreck, it was pretty much unharmed, but the 2nd wreck totalled it. It still drove great and had some minor cosmetic damage, but the insurance company "totalled" it. I still haven't gotten over the loss of that car - I loved it!
Many thanks,
