Hey, I have had my 960 for about 6 months and i love it to death. I was just wondering if anybody could tell me what are the best rims to get for a white 960. What about exhaust? I have taken it to many custom shops and they don't do any dealings with my car, so I would have to take them parts. I have blue StreetGlow on my car too! haha! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Mods for 960 (apocalixto)

Welcome to Swedespeed, Calixto.

Nice web page! And nice Volvo!

My '96 965 (in Temple, Texas) has 16" Italia Sport wheels with fat Yoko's.

These "rims" are no longer available.

To see what will fit your 960 visit http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp

There are some European aftermarket suppliers with expensive suspension and brake stuff but most USA Volvo support is for the classic and newer Volvos.

Look around at

http://www.ipdusa.com/

for some 960 stuff.

You are near Volvo places that honor the VCOA membership discount includiing

http://www.southwestauto.com/

and

http://www.trademotion.com/par...13784

which is the Volvo dealer nearest you (Richardson).

In addition to Swedespeed, other sites to visit often are found here

http://www.texasvolvoclub.com/volvolinks.htm

The next Texas Volvo Car Meet will be near Houston in the Fall of 2006.

I am with dill on this really. But as long as you get the same size or plus one plus two for the right offset for a 960 then your golden on rim/tires. AS for the CUSTOM! shop not wishing to deal with you? that is BS. That is what they are in busines for! CUSTOM EXHUAST. Bent on site on car as need be CUSTOM. But hey I got a piece of land in brooklyn by a bridge for ya too. lololol wonder if they would as well throw the 72 Chevelle or 2000 Tahoe out. Here in SC we got all sorts of trucks both small(ranger/s10/dakota) and large(F150/Siearra/Ram 1500) running DUAL EXHUAST that was never made factory. And cars(honda/toyota/mitsu/BMW/Audi/CHRY) as well with all sorts of exhaust that never was offered thru a cataloge.
A Volvo is no different. Might have seen one too here but do not recall it. CUSTOM is CUSTOM. Now if you are looking for CHEAP ok that is not what you said.

Another option for rims is to have a set of the stock steel 15x5.5 rims widened to 7" by having 0.75" added to the outside. The result is rims that nicely fill the wheel arches. (see: http://www.frontiernet.net/~fl...0.jpg) (You may also want to consider getting some better lights on the front of the car, like I did.)

I have had very good results with getting custom exhaust work done by Midas. Midas carries the standard aftermarket exhaust parts now. They have built a a few custom exhausts for me. The ones I have liked the most on my 740s were straight pipes from the Cat back over the axle to either a 2 chamber FlowMaster or a Ravin 55 series muffler mounted under the trunk. After that, it was straight out to the end of the bumper.

BTW: You really want to make sure your exhaust system ends at the end of the bumper. My experience tells me that if you don't get it out that far the sound of the exhaust tends to get caught underneath of the car and it gets too loud inside.

BTW 2: The 960 exhaust already flows pretty good, so unless you really plan to make more power, you won't gain much. If you just want a better sound, check out the Ravin.

Suspension parts are the hardest to find. The 960 Sedans and later wagons with IRS are not well supported on the performance suspension pieces. (Neither are any of the engines.) At the risk of offending poeple, the Turbobricks forum has some good information for 960 owners seeking to do performance mod their cars.

Re: Mods for 960 (apocalixto)

Eurosport Tuning out of Canada can get you a factory Sport Kit. This suspension kit includes new lowering springs front and rear, shocks and new sway bars. It is real pricey btw. $2000. The problem is finding someone that wants to deal with the rear fiberglass spring. This is not a fun job to install on a 960. Eurosport doesn't list the kit on the web page you have to ask for it. It was a European only option for the later 960's.

Re: Mods for 960 (apocalixto)

Hey there.
About rims... The car is such a big one, that any lesser than 15" will make the wheels look smaller. I have 18" on mine, and that looks sweet.

These are 8x18 Alessio F1 w/225/40/18

Or you can do it the expensive way.. These are my former rims, 8.5X18 Superstar Gradeur

just wanted to give an update on my 960:

i got a custom exhaust done....all MagnaFlow. its really nice. performs better in my opinion...nothing official yet...haha. high flow cat, straight piping up until the axels...new muffler and a new chrome dual wall tip.

as for the rims and stuff...i am waiting for some money to come my way...i think i am gonna go to 16" or 17". not sure yet.
