    DRIVIN SKILLZ

Not really Volvo related, but you'll enjoy it if you're in this forum!

Most of the action is in the first couple of minutes of the vid.

BTW- A few years ago I had the opportunity to ride in one of Volvos Super Touring cars driven by Ex Formula One driver Stefan Johansson (a swede!) and I was shocked by the cabin noise. Sensory overload to the point of disorientation. The high pitched shrieking sound is from the straight cut gears in the dog box transmission. These can be shifted w/o using the clutch, just like a motorcycle. Also, the acceleration was good, but was nothing in comparison to the braking force the car generated. It braked so hard, it made you sick! ( I’m not kidding…)

I watched the 1st lap. I counted at least 20 cars that he past and the majority of them were buy the end of the first few turns. Do they have have multiple classes in this series? He just looked a little too good.

His threading the needle was far more impressive than the reeling...... the ability to do that in a race is what gets you wins.... wish I was as good!!

Similar action, albeit slower in this video

    Wow!
He passes everyone by what the middle of the 2nd lap?
...and a MARCOS! (Running about 5th or 6th).
Haven't seen one of those in a long time.
Serious cahones and a very fast car, hope he has eardrums at the end of the race
What WAS that noise, tranny you say?
We ran striaght dog gears years ago and never heard that extreme noise before not even close

Agreed. He was bullying the position quite a bit... seemed like reckless abandon, but really was just amazing driving. I guess when your car is superior you can also drive it that precise. I love that corner when he lost it each time, but it was planned.

Scott said trans. I'm wondering if it's trans or diff?

See Hans Stuck here in the M3 GTR with a regular box (not sequential). Same whine, albeit less noisy!

I don't know a lot about racecars obviously: do racing transmissions synchromesh gears? The sound that M3 makes reminds me of an old 300Z my family owned with 2 bad synchro's. Anyway, it is amazing that the sound of the diff and trans totally overwhelm the sound of the engine and exhaust. I just can't get enough of youtube racing video's.

This is one of my favorites, the Ruf Yellowbird at the 'ring (quality isn't great, old video)

Straight cut gears. Same thing as in rally cars.

Stronger, but obviously a bit less... drivable.

That guy has some serious skills. Not mention some serious balls.
