      Some Guidelines

Ok guys and gals. If you're a car nut like me you've probably sat around someone's garage or shop, drinking beer and shooting the poop.

You talk about life, love, politics, religion and occasionally, even cars.

You keep your conversations civil because your all sitting and standing around and you know that if you smart off, someone might take offense and bash your teeth in.

As a rule of thumb, why not treat the OT like a virtual garage / shop, and show the same common respect toward one another we would if we were gathered together.

Otherwise, lets stop the verbal attacks, baiting, and name calling. If would get you punched in the face in the real world, it will get deleted here. If it would get you punched in the face and thrown out of the shop, it will get you banned here.

      Re: Some Guide Lines (Shomare)

It's been this way much longer than you or I have been here.
When a post gets TOO out of control it gets deleted, but there has ALWAYS been a very wide latitude in the OT so I suggest you ask Chris before you do something really dumb!
(I do agree with you about the name calling though)

      I have spoken with Chris.

Regardless of how long its gone on, it's time for a change.

I'd like to encourage people to be as civil as possible.

I'll try to keep from doing anything real dumb!

What sort of cavemen do you hang out with? My friends have thick skin and a sense of humor. They aren't looking to violently attack a friend over words.

Not cavemen, just people with a healthy respect for each other. People who would not be blatantly offensive and antagonistic toward each other.

I think some members take liberties with the anonymity of the internet and really go at each other unnecessarily.

Let's all just take a wait and see approach. I think that members are capable of being more civil toward each other than they have been in the past.

For review, here's the SS Big Rules:

THE BIG RULES: Violation of these rules is grounds for IMMEDIATE banning of your account.

      - No profanity in subject lines or signatures.

      - No spamming or commercial solicitation of any kind. Any such messages will be removed at the discretion of either a forum moderator or administrator.

-No flaming of other members to incite or perpetuate a conflict or argument. ANY personal attacks or name calling will get you banned.

-No bombing forums or threads with pointless posts.

      - No linking or posting of pornographic or objectionable material.

      - Do not impersonate other individuals or falsely represent yourself.

      - Do not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any illegal activity on the forums. Linking to locations that deal with any such activity are also forbidden.

      - Posting under secondary usernames or alias user names other than your main account for the purpose of arguing, degrading or belittling other readers is grounds for having your posting privileges revoked.

      - You must have a valid e-mail account in your profile so you can be reached by a forum moderator or administrator.

These are here to help you (and others) have an enjoyable experience here.

      - Respect both forum moderators and administrators. It is a thankless job that they do, and cleaning up other people's messes is never fun.

      - No SHOUTING. Don't use all caps when posting. It is difficult to read and annoying.

      - Try to post to the forum that is most appropriate for the topic being presented.

      - No cross-posting. (see spamming above)

      - Refrain from using profanity or cr3ative spell1ng to get around the censor filters.

      - Respect the privacy of other members and individuals. Do not post personal information about them (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, etc.)

      - No buying, selling, or trading anywhere outside of the Classified Forum.

      - Observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material.

      - Do not post messages that violate Federal, State, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or is bound by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).

Moderators and administrators frequently review forum messages for those that are in violation of Swedespeed rules. Any messages found to be in violation may be deleted without warning or explanation. Swedespeed also reserves the right to ban any user, at any time, and for any reason.

There are going to be topics and discussions that will have heated debates. Please think before you post and re-read what you type before you post it. Keep your comments limited to the debate at hand and not make this a personal issue between you and another reader. There is tremendous diversity in age, race, gender, language, location (worldwide) and more here and there will be a lot of varying opinions on different subjects. We're all human beings and we we're all drawn to this site because we have a common bond as Volvo and car enthusiasts.

I meant the OT will be gone (not many will participate). I don't usually spend a hell of a lot of time there anyway, (well not until the BOOBS thread was in bloom ).
It's a unique forum with some "unique" members.
If it's neuterized to the point of it being "G" rated, many will just not sign in anymore as it will have lost its uniqueness.

Swedespeed isn't a democracy it's a forum. A forum with some basic guidelines to adhere to and abide by.

Give it some time JRL. Your feedback is much appreciated.

You still don't get it (and I said nothing about breaking the rules, most all of the time the "basic guidelines" are adhered to.
What I said was, it's a democracy (the US of A) and if the OT forum becomes overly heavy handed by you, WE have the choice just to go somewhere else or not at all.
Either way, SS looses (its people).

If you're a real mod why is "modified by Shomare" in your last post?

When I was a mod years ago, that never showed up in one of my posts.

Depends on how long you wait to edit. If I notice a mistake and go back right away, no notice of modification appears.

If it's or 10 min after the post appears, notice of edit appears at the bottom of post.

The OTF has been fun and just fine as is for the years I have been here. Mods stepped in when needed (and when not) but it has worked. Like JRL said, if neutered look for a potential migration to another forum.

Probably just a preference setting that needs to be tweaked.

I think we should leave the OT to us loons and thats that. Most people come here to vent, and if someone actually takes offense here , we are all adults and should be able to handle it amongst ourselves.
Whether through flaming, name calling or pointless posts. I have yet to see anyone get physical here, and if it should happen( which I doubt it will ever get to that point, too many of these guys are afraid to come fight me, LOL) then so be it. I know I won't run to the cops or any authorities, or a Mod, for help.

I believe someone posted once " Surrender the OT Forum to us Loonies"! That is what should be done. Just my opinion, perhaps we should get a poll/vote going and see! Even though SS is a privstely owned entity and has rules, as members though we should have some say!
