Let's swap hoods sometime. Did you ever get the parts I left at Ben's for you?

Josh came over. Ripped apart his door panels and installed the poly trans mount.

And volvorwd came over to buy the perfos I got off the black/dark grey 854R I parted out that were surplus since the T5 SE acquisition.

HAHAHA that's exactly what I told Chris when I finally met him. I used to see his car roaming around back when I was working summers in his neighborhood and always wondered who had the epic S70.

What did you do to your car today?

After 2.5 months of trying to source my EVAP leak P0455 code (and some other code) and trying to find time to fix it between work and school, finally solved my gas mileage and I'm back at 20 mpg (and rising) and no check engine light had a giant crack on my hose going to my charcoal canister, amongst other cracks and broken lines

Thanks Andy. I'll iron out the few issues (driveshaft, oil pressure, downpipe) and make it a nice dd. This is Chris's (Kampman) old car and is an excellent example as a starting point. I've been putting together an m66 swap "kit" (m66/03 2.3/ k24, c70 subframe, etc) and plan to do one of the wagons. I will have another nice 00 p80 wagon in the near future that will probably be the next manual swap; that one needs a tranny so... the emerald also has a good auto!

Personally I'd the 2.3L... it's a worse motor than the 2.4L that is in the car. Better of with a B5254T2 or B5244T5. No reason not to take advantage of the increased stroke and lighter rotating assembly... Especially in a car with that much lag to begin with. Also the much much better head gasket design. FYI the P2R exhaust manifold is on every 04+ turbo car... K24 needs the R water pipe IIRC. Also use a P1 one piece exhaust gasket.

I thought the B5254T2 was burning too many valves for people to still like it? Aside from that I agree though, and the LPT engine has a lot going for it if your goal is like 300-350 bhp or less.

Every LPT engine burns a valve at around 200k miles... it was true of the 850 and P80 and it's true of the P2. Not bad to do though. Especially outta the car.

      They're also only $4-500 for a 150k mile one.

I've run the RN 2.3s in three different manual swaps and been very satisfied with the results. I'm also very familiar with the necessary piping/lines that the k24 requires. I need to do a build blog for my 98v70r that I dropped this combo (w/m58) into. Just don't spend enough computer time with all my projects. I've been tempted to get an 05+ s60t5 motor and build it but this low mile 2.3 dropped into my lap for $100 so...
But thanks for the suggestions and tips! I appreciate what this group thinks.

Oh cool, didn't realize it was Chris's old wagon! It looked black in the picture on my phone, but now that I see it on my laptop it is Olive. Sounds like a fun project, I'll definitely enjoy seeing the progress you make on it.

Finally replaced the radiator fan today. Erie Volvo FTW.

AndyB5, What did you need to mod to fit the CX coilovers? My reverse rake is wearing me down quickly. TIA

I'm actually still running Nivos in the back, the CXs are waiting on me to decide on a spring rate and order new springs.

You have to widen the inside diameter of the metal bushing at the base and make/buy a mount for it to bolt up to the LCA. I'm using a "T-bar kit" from QA1 that is the right size but you need to widen the spacing of the bolt holes.

Since the rear of an AWD wagon is ~500lbs heavier than a FWD wagon, new stiffer springs are needed.

If you want a more "bolt up" solution, there's a company that is currently testing an AWD specific coilover setup and should have them on the market soon. Price point will be a bit higher than CX but it's a nicer product so I'd happily spend the extra money. I'd share more details but I was asked not to until they're released to the public.

Oh, and here's a pic of the 00 R from earlier.

Your car looks great! The Satellites are a sneaky underrated OE wheel. That car is cleeeeaaan!

BTW, isn't Ben Kaplan still making an AWD "coilover" kit? I have a set on my car and it's been great.

+1. Especially in 17". Finally saw a set in person at Carlisle this year and they looked killer.

BTW, isn't Ben Kaplan still making an AWD "coilover" kit? I have a set on my car and it's been great.
Thanks!! It looks a little less clean up close, but overall it's in much better shape than my 99. Agreed, the Sats have really grown on me since I've bought this car.

Correct, Ben still sells his AWD coilover sets. He actually has expanded the number of choices for dampers. In addition to the Konis that have been available, he now has a few different JRZ choices, from single adjustable all the way up to double adjustable with external reservoirs!

I drove Kevin's 854 R with Kaplhenke/JRZ coilovers at Carlisle this year. They are absolutely incredible, super smooth and ride very comfortably while still doing an awesome job of controlling body motion. Roll, squat and dive were basically non-existent, and since the dampers provide so much control, you can run a softer spring which improves ride quality and actually helps the car grip better too. The JRZ stuff isn't cheap, but it's worth the money!

Nope, studded snows are still on

Yeah AJs 17" Sats are pretty cool. I can only think of 1 other car in the US that I know of with the same wheels!

Supposedly there is a 3rd set that just surfaced too. Don't know where it is though.
