Thread: NE Dyno Day and Winter Meet GTG

  1. 10-31-2009 03:23 PM #1
    Hi guys,

Perfect timing right now with the cool temps and low humidity Fall/Winter air for a dyno day. We are also meeting as a GTG before the snow comes. There are plenty of local bars and restaurants, so even if you're not dynoing, come out and have some fun with all of us

I'm working with ESP (Enhanced Street Performance) to organize the dyno day for us. They are well located in Sterling, MA, which is about 20min from Worcester and 45min to an hour from Boston, depending where you live. They have a state of the art AWD/2WD chassis dynamometer by Mustang Dynamometer, which will provide us with HP, TQ, A/F and Boost (if you have the hook up installed in your car, i.e. 'T' connection for a boost gage), using an SAE correction factor. You can check out their website here (grab the address for directions/GPS):

    http://www.enhancedstreetperformance.com/

I need 10-20 people for us to do this at the dyno day rates. You can sign up until the date of the event or until all 20 spaces have been filled.

    When: Saturday, November 21
    Time: Starting at 9am
Rates: $75 for AWD, $60 for 2WD (FWD or RWD, doesn't matter)
Lunch: ESP will provide us with a free lunch, in the form of a BBQ (burgers and hot dogs, or the like). Note: only people paying to dyno are entitled to a free lunch, along with passengers (within a reasonable limit) but I'm sure if there's food left over they won't mind visitors grabbing a bite. And if there are many just visiting, you can always chip in a few bucks so everyone can eat - come see me early on so we can set it up before lunch.

The event should go until ~2pm, depending on how many cars we have. First come first dyno, so even if you're late, no problem, but you want to get there within your group (AWD or 2WD - see below).

The only thing ESP asks for is that we group people together between AWD and 2WD, because they have to set up the dynamometer between the two and we will waste time if they do this for each car. We usually start with AWD then 2WD (further split between FWD and RWD). If you are AWD, please show up between 8:30am and 9:30am. It's impossible to predict how long the AWD group will take, but it's usually ~20 minutes per car, give or take. So 2WD cars, please plan accordingly - I'd say you want to start showing up at 10am-11am. Come out early to be on the safe side and see the AWD dynos

ESP prefers to handle the driving during the dyno, but you are welcome to drive your own car on the dyno if you'd like.

Even if you're stock this is a good way to establish stock numbers for your car, so that you can measure gains with modds in the future. If you're modded, come see what the gooddies in your car are doing for you right now

Naturally, the focus is on the R, but we are not limited to Rs, AWD or Volvos in general, so please extend this invitation to friends and family as well.

I need you to post your name (can be Swedespeed/online name, friend's name if they're not on SS, etc. - basically, whoever is going to dyno), car, AWD/FWD/RWD and head count for lunch.

    NAME - CAR - AWD/FWD/RWD - # of people for lunch

    1. Dan - S60R - AWD - 2
    2. teamxtremekid87 - S70 GLT - FWD - 2
    3. Edogg218 - V70R - AWD - 2

    17. Nick-SVT Lightning - RWD - 2

    19. Tony - M5 - RWD - 1
    20. Dan - S60 2.5T- AWD - 1
    21. LeeRod - E55 AMG - RWD - 1

Any more will be on a "stand-by" status. You may be able to dyno, but I cannot guarantee it (sorry).

Come out, hang out with us and let's have some fun before the mad holiday rush starts up again. I hope to see you all there

Drivers: You want to know which gear is closest to a 1:1 ratio. Find the gear ratios for your car and I'll see you all on the 21st.

We have guests coming to our house in the afternoon....if the weather is good I'll swing by in the morning to watch the wheels spin. ESP is about 20 minutes north of my house.

    I am down for this!

    dradernh BMW M335 RWD - 1 (weather permitting (i.e., no snow - it's trailered))

    - OR -

dradernh V70R AWD - 1 (w/be curious to see how it compares to the numbers from last year's 70-degree, humid dyno at ESP)

P.S. My recollection is that ESP prefers cash as it makes the flow much faster; for plastic, they have to stop everything, go into the office, put it through...too much time, not enough noise!

P.P.S As a certified old guy with blown-out hearing, I highly recommend that folks bring some kind of hearing protection with them. It is LOUD in that room!!! For the unknowing, hearing loss is due to accumlated noise - so, by the time your hearing starts to go, it's due to loud noises that you experienced a long time ago (read: it's way too late to do anything about it).

There's an M335? I thought they only made the 335i and xi models (and maybe a diesel version or something)? What's the "M" model?

Might be interested if the race motor is finished in time (not a Volvo). RWD Alfa.

    There's an M335?

You know how certain folks put M labels & M colors on their BMWs even though they're not Ms? This one is an '87 E30 325is that had its interior, dash & instruments, transmission, diff & suspension converted to E30 M3 and then had an E34 3.5 liter M5 motor stuffed into it. Hence, M335. The motor conversion was quite an achievement back in the day and the first to be done in this country.

Quite a bit of the rest of it was custom made: driveshaft, radiator, motor mounts, etc.; or they're aftermarket race suspension parts. Other interesting bits as part of the original build are a 10-gallon aux fuel tank & two bike radiators to help out on really hot days when idling for extended periods.

I bought the car already done and have added Recaros, Schroth harnesses, Momo wheel, BBS wheels, Wilwood brakes, Yoko A048s & various other odds-n-ends. It's strictly a track car now.

Don't get too excited. 200 at the flywheel would be very optimistic. It's a 2 liter, 4 cylinder.

But I hope it's finished because I'm heading to Summit Point with it the very next day and then on to CA.

What are you talking about - 100 HP/liter on a NA motor is always exciting! Where are you taking it in CA?

The full schedule isn't out yet but for sure there will be races at Willow Springs (big track), Buttonwillow, Fontana and hopefully Laguna Seca and Sears Point/Infineon.

I don't know, I really don't have $60 to be spending, and I'd rather wait until I have a couple more mods.

S60R1: How would you like me to tell you who is coming from other forums? Here is the link to the nemotorsport thread http://www.nemotorsport.com/bo...=6799
If you want you can check that thread frequently and update according to who is RSVP'd. There are already about 3-4 people that said yes, and a couple more who are a maybe on that site.

Simply post their info here and I will add them to the list. I need their:

    NAME - CAR - AWD/FWD/RWD - # of people for lunch

I saw the RSVP's (great work btw, thanks!), but some stated "maybe" even though they RSVP'd and some don't list their cars on their sigs. If you can help me gather this info that will be great

I think there's also the s60r.com and v70r.com websites that you guys can branch out to if you'd like. I have SS + VS covered.

I like Mazdaspeed cars, great turbos, will be cool to see one dyno

For all, whoever just wants to eat bring a few bucks with you.

I do need a head count a few days before though, so ESP can make sure they buy enough food, so please just let me know how many will eat/not dyno. I'll let you know how much just to eat either soon or at the dyno meet.

But now I'm confused about how many for lunch. Is it just them two, so 1 each, or are they also bringing passengers?

I might be able to come out there, but I won't be dyno-ing. I'm having a significant stutter in the R right now, either due to the cheap tubing Glowshift supplied with their gauge or a dirty MAF. So running her on that would be uselss.

I could bring the M5 though...and you would need ear protection!!!

YES!!! bring the M5 it will be sick!

And make sure you don't have any kinks in the vac. tubing, i haven't had any problems with mine so far.

I made sure there were no kinks when I ran it, as I know guys had issues with that. The stuttering is intermittent too, so I'm thinking it could be the T-connector itself. What size tubing is that anyway, 1/4"?

Thanks for the offer S60R, but it's annoying enough that I need to address it this weekend. Probably due the trick where you cut the slot in the torx bit to use a regular screwdriver.

let me see if I can get someone to watch my daughter that morning, and then I'll give a definite answer.
