Any problems with the other Volvos?

    Larry,

    What year is your XC70?

Is the problem that the tail gate is not unlocking? Or is it that you can't release the latch?

Have you tried the inside release?

SOmetimes if something gets caught in the door when it is closed, it can jam the latch enough that it is hard to open. Try pushing in on the door with some force while you try the latch to see if it will release.

If none of this works, the latch linkage may have come loose inside the door - that will be a bit of a sticky problem, but my next thought would be to try to get the panel off on the inside so that you can access the latch linkage.

As for the fuses blowing, it sounds like a problem with a short in the wires to the gate - usually the problem is where the wires are routed through the hinges at the top. Does the fuse blow immediately when you put it in, or does it blow when you operate something - like the lights, electric doog lock?

My XC70 is a 2001. Can't find an inside release to the tail gate. I don't think anything is stuck in the door. The key pad will open all doors but the tail gate. This happened once before and changed the fuse. This time the fuse just pops immediately. I was thinking the "motor" needed to be
re-placed, but can't get there. I recently had some body work done on the car, on side panels, mabe some wires got messed up. Don't know.

Check your owners manual for the location of the inside tailgate "latch". Also, did the tailgate function correctly before the bodywork?
