F***ing yea!
My car is built and leaving the factory today.
It's going to be in Geneva by next week, but I'll only get to see it on the 10th (vacation)
Yay!!! I'll post pictures then!
After spending the afternoon at the dealership and looking at various color combinations in stock at the "prep lot" I decided against the Ember Black Metallic/Beechwood combination; I liked the way it looked on the doors and back seat however did not like the look on the front seats!
I have decided on Flamenco Red with Offblack/Anthracite with the premium and climate package; this will be my 13th Volvo all acquired through the same dealership; my delivery date is 12/29 and can't wait!
As I said...it's all down to personal taste
I'm happy to hear you'll be getting the car so soon. And WOW...13th Volvo. Now that's commitment to the brand!
I've taken more pictures with a wide angle lens...but since you've already made up your mind I'm not gonna post them anymore.
However, a friend took this picture while I was driving towards Lyon this weekend and wanted to share it with you:
Actually, I've modified the post with interior pictures and added more. Maybe someone else who sees them gets an idea about the colour of the leather.
Picked up my new ride yesterday! Awesome so far. I had 2 non functioning front turn signal bulbs; they were replaced by two taken out of another vehicle in stock; they had no bulbs in the Parts Dept. More to follow.
Hehe
Sweet, post some pictures when you have the time.
Enjoy the ride and have fun.
Unrelated, I'm thinking of getting the Heico ECU upgrade for my bday in March. My dealer couldn't tell me the exact price for now, but he said it should be between $1.5-2k.
Do you guys think its worth it?
Hello guys,
I haven't posted in a long time, but I think this is worth the post...
I had the opportunity to take a longer trip and managed to test the cruise control... (My GF is sorry for the blurry photos btw)
Very cool. Too bad the moon was there, looks like an opening or a crack in the space time....
How many tries did the moving ones take you of the highway? Did you just rest the camera on the dash?
Thanks!
For the ones on the highway, the camera was on the dash, and it didn't take for many tries.
They're 2 second (dawn) and 8 second respectively (night) exposures at a focal of 11mm.
The one at dawn is just me overtaking a truck, while the one at night features a passing truck on the left (orange lines) and a blue highway sign on the right.
I was at a roundabout with a car in front of me. As the car in front of me started going into the roundabout, I decided I had time as well to go in so I started looking left to make sure I'm safe, while I started advancing as well.
For some unknown reason, the car in front of me braked and stopped half way into the roundabout (I was still looking left, thinking the other car already got through the roundabout).
As I turned around to look straight, I saw the car stopped, heard the car warning, pressed the brakes, but the car had already done that for me...
I probably would have had time to brake in time myself, but it definitely would have been later.
In any case, thanks Volvo!
Hi y'all. Been a lurker here for a while. I really have to say I had the same exact experience about a year ago, but with my b-new Accord. Needless to say, it was too late to react and I crashed behind the car. This led me to buy the S60 the moment I saw it has this auto brake function.
So many drivers fall victim to that kind of situation including a few that I know. That's why I never look for an opening when merging into traffic until I know the car in front of me is gone. Our National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is trying to mandate that every car should have rear view cameras by law by 2014. I think this system would be more beneficial
I think you're right. This would reduce the number of low speed crashes dramatically.
As for this situation, you're right again. It's just, I was almost positive the car had cleared the roundabout by the time I got there -he had no reason to stop like that half way through-.
This is an extract from the manual :
"Brake Support : If the risk of collision continues to increase after the collision warning has been given, Brake Support is activated. Brake Support prepares the brake system to react quickly, and the brakes are applied slightly. This may be experienced as a light tug. If the brakes are applied quickly, full braking effect will be provided. Brake Support also increases brake force if the system determines that the driver has not applied adequate pressure on the brake pedal."
What I understand from this is that if you brake too little, the Autobraking feature will still apply more pressure for you, in order to avoid an accident - if you don't start to steer around the obstacle - in which case it might not activate the auto braking feature at all.
stormlv:
I picked up my S60T5 via OSD 11-April-2012. I made a point of hitting the Autobahn; the car limited out at 130MPH (312KPH); there was plenty of throttle, RPM, engine capacity (according to the GPS). My wife took pictures of the speedometer to prove it...
That was one of the reasons for OSD: to drive the car on the Autobahn...
Hehehe, nice that you managed to have fun on the Autobahn.
It's a really nice feeling to go that fast.
Enjoy and take care!
BTW, 130mph is ~210kph
With my T6 I got up to ~155mph around 5000rpm. It felt that it could go a bit more, but i think the limiter kicked in
(screencap included )
Yes, 213KPH/130MPH. I hit the keys in the wrong order when typing the KPH. I took a picture of my GPS maximum speed in KPH too.
The way the car behaved, it was a limiter kicking in at that speed rather than lack of ability. Of course, mine is an American-spec car so that might be in the regulations. It has 147MPH rated tires so I gave Marcus a (very small, jokingly) hard time over the 130 vs 147 MPH difference when I dropped the car off.
Here's my S60 in a "new light".
This is how the car looks in infrared (>720nm).
They're false color images (original would have looked reddish). Hope you enjoy them.
Hi guys,
I just recently changed my interior bulbs with LEDs.
I changed, the dome lights (4 bulbs front + 2 in the back), the trunk festoon bulbs and the bulb in the glove box.
I'm also planning to change the foot well bulbs but I can't find instructions on how to get the bulbs out. I checked VIDA and they don't show up in the "removal instructions".
Can anyone help?
Anyway, here are the pictures of the interior after I changed the bulbs :
Vlad,
Love your posts-beautiful car in a beautiful country. And a guy who knows how to use a dSLR.
On behalf of all S60 drivers in North America, we can only wish we could set out ACC to 200km/h!:thumbup:
I took delivery of a 2013 S60 RD earlier this year. When I swapped out the cabin lamps for LEDs, I noticed that the LEDs stay dimly lid. Does that happen in your car? I was using Philips ExtremeVision 4000K T10 LEDs.
The footwell LEDs:
On the passenger side, there are two torx screw keeping the panel where the lamp housing is in place. Remove the two torx screws (T20) and pull the panel straight down. There is a clip near the back that you may need some force to remove. Once the panel is removed, unclip the cable to the lamp housing.
Use a small blade screwdriver to push the four clips inwards (towards the center). With the clips bent inwards, the lamp housing will fall through the hole. Once the housing is out, you can remove the lens. Inside you will find a T10 wedge bulb. I used an angled needle nose pliers to remove the bulb. As you can see, you will need T10s that have SMD LEDs on all four sides and not just the front. Once you have successfully replaced the bulb, be sure plug in the lamp housing to the power cable to make sure you have the right polarity of the LEDs. I know the LEDs I bought are polarity sensitive so you will want to make sure the LED lights up before you put everything back.
Removing the lamp housing on the driver’s side is trickier. What I did was to use a flat blade screwdriver and push the two tabs inward with the screwdriver while applying force from above the lamp housing. Once the two tabs are pushed far enough, and the lamp housing pushed downwards, one side will fall through the panel. Once that happens, you’re free to safely remove the lens. At this point, you can either change the bulb or continue to remove the housing. I chose the latter. With the lens off, you can use a small blade screwdriver to pry the two tabs on the other side inwards. If successful, the lamp housing will come through the hole. Once again, remove the power cable and repeat the same procedure above to replace the T10 bulb. Let me know if you have any questions.

Does this happen with your footwell lights as well? I was looking for a convenient way to add ambient lighting to the footwells, provided they will turn off all the way when the ignition is off.
