2001 Volvo S80 Brakes

I have to replace the brake pad and rotors on my S80 and there are two different sizes, 286mm and 305mm. I realize I can just measure the ones I have on their already, but does it matter what size I have? I mean, if they are 286mm, could I still get the 305mm? Or are the sizes based on other mechanical components that require one size or the other.

The rotors are not interchangeable without some work. The 305 rotors need a different mounting bracket for the caliper.
