Hey now! I've had pretty aggressive wheels every now and then. $400 for a redrill isn't horrible, but if the wheels/ET make adapters impossible/unsafe then $400 is doable.

Hey Jessica...quick question about the tire size difference on your AWD. I was under the impression that because of the AWD, we can't run two different tire sizes. With your set-up, there's a 1.24% diameter difference front to rear. I'm dying to run a 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear...that give only a 0.09% diameter difference, but just wasn't sure if the AWD system would agree with that. Can you or anyone else shed any light on this?

I either need to buck up and just do it, or sell these and find a set closer to 5x108 to redrill easier. My concern is how close to center the lug holes will be making the lug nuts themselves a tight fit. Otherwise they are perfect offsets for our cars.

lol there are a few people on here that actually push the envelope, but as a whole the North American Volvo "scene" is pretty modest in comparison to other car enthusiast groups... But never mind lol

With regard to my staggered setup, it's a minor difference and the tire profile is the same front and rear (which supposedly is the trick). I'm on my second season with this setup and haven't had any issues

what does your gps speedo say in relation to your actual speedo is what i think he's referring to. this is assuming the gps speedo is showing the correct speed.

Apparently it's out by 0.9KM or something like that. Honestly, a negligible difference in this case.

If you're out by more than 5% in some other applications (ie: VW), the AWD computer system can be compromised. The slight speedo difference doesn't exactly bother me lol.

Nope, I was actually referring to the AWD system being affected by the difference in revolutions between the front and rear wheels. I've heard that it can possibly damage the system...just not sure how much of a difference there needs to be in order for that to happen.

I've had multiple people say that on our models the AWD is nowhere near as finicky as the older AWD models. I've ran some slightly different tire sizes before without any issues, not to mention staggered. My Astons have 235/35/19 fronts and 265/30/19 rears.

Yeah like I said, less than 5% I believe... If the Haldex is being negatively affected, you'll know fairly quicky.

  10. 04-04-2012 05:51 PM #45
Shouldn't be an issue with our cars, unlike the old Volvos which would grenade the diff due to varying wheel speed.

I Know what You mean , but from a 110 or 112 mm should be No concern , or You could pick up some
After market Lugs - that would Fit better for Impact Gun Clearances . If the wheels were 100 mm
Bolt pattern - Designer Lug Nut would be a Must or a Real Thin Walled - Star Wrench !

Hey just take one of those Star's and Grind down the Out side to Fit - Now You have an
Instant set of Lockers , as No other Sockets would Fit !

Well after i put a call into KW the other day, the coilovers finally shipped and will be delivered on Monday. Time to roll and pull the fenders

On another note, when doing some maintenance today, the owner of the s40 found a nice crack in the intake manifold--explains why the car has never really pulled how it should. Elevate short runner+tuner=problem solved in a few days.

I can't wait to feel how this thing runs when it's able to hold more than like 4 psi!

  15. 04-19-2012 02:43 PM #50
well, the coils finally came in and went on the car last night. I'm getting quite good at doing these installs now. The front only took about 45 minutes or so and the rear only took 25 minutes. Not too shabby

We installed the fronts with no helpers and rears with no perches. We still need to trim the end link tab on the fronts so we can spin the collars down another .75'' or so. I'm hoping the rear settles a little more otherwise we'll be cutting a coil off.

Will get some better pics this weekend.

The elevate tuner also showed up last night WITH NO TUNES LOADED AND NONE AVAILABLE TO SYNC!
If the short runner shows up and sucks as much as their springs and tune (or lack of) it's going through their front window.

You have to wait for an email so you can dl the tune from their server. Once you get it, you'll get the tune. Have fun with elevate. I'm glad I don't ever have to deal with him again

The rears are the hardest to drop on these cars, I'm rolling no perch all spring in the rear on my H&R's and still barely tuck tire. With 19's could be another story.

There really slow with their stuff, it took a whole extra week for me to get my tune after I already had my tuner. But be patient and soon enough you'll be getting an email from them saying its ready!! (best feeling ever)

If it doesn't settle much we'll be cutting some **** out of the rears to get it lower. The car will be on 18s with stretch so it's gonna need to be pretty low.

Yeah we emailed them and they finally got back to us. We paid for 2 day air shipping so i think it's bs to have only half the product at the time it's delivered. As of yesterday they hadn't even begun setting up his tune. They asked for all his info again ie: mods, octane, etc. so it's like they never even received his initial order.

so we hadn't heard anything from Elevate since late last week, as expected. plugged in the tuner last night and it downloaded the tune like it should have done 2 weeks ago. Loaded it and took the car for a rip. I'm very surprised how well it feels now. It may actually walk my gti from a roll!
Overall, the tune was worth the wait and the owner is happy, which is most important. Elevate really needs to work on their customer service and managing their customers expectations if they want to return customers. I'm looking forward to getting the cracked pos intake manifold off the car and installing the Elevate unit. Hopefully there will be a good difference since it should be able to actually hold boost instead of just spike and leak out.

^Were you in contact with Elevate or with Peter at Autotech in sweden? Elevate simply sells the loader and has nothing to do with the tune itself. Shame on Elevate and Don if they didn't tell you to contact Peter.

Elevate only. They were acting as the middle man and did not supply a direct contact for autotech.

Elevate has actually come leaps and bounds from when they were Evolve if you can believe that, he actually seems much more involved. Well on c30world anyway.

Wow I just saw they're doing a group buy on the tune on c30world. That really sucks since he paid full price. Maybe Don wil be reasonable and give him a discount on some other parts since he paid a good $200+ over what he's selling them for right now.

Yeah definitely would have been nice to mention it but what's done is done. I told Adam to shoot him an email tomorrow and see of he's willing to hook him up with something since he did spend $1800 or so with Elevate last month

weather has been spotty this week and i forgot to take my camera over the weekend. I'll see if I can grab a crappy iPhone pic tonight since i don't have my canon on me. The caps have since been painted gloss black. Hopefully the wheels will be replaced in the next few weeks if Rotiform ever restocks!

Yes, they will go lower. Pulling the helpers doesn't necessarily make them ride worse, it's the increased drop that does. The v1's on the s40 with no perches and no helpers still ride great, in my opinion.

Here's a dyno chart from yesterday. Mods are 3'' catted dp, autotech catback and elevate tune. The car still has in cracked intake manifold so it should be making more power. It will go back on the dyno after the elevate short runner comes in.

What year S40 is this? It appears to be 04.5-07 but with the rear bumper and lights of the 08+. What was your buddy's reasoning behind the rear and not the front facelift? I ask as I did the exact opposite, full front facelift (lights and bumper) and 08+ rear tails paired with the original style rear bumper as I like it's lines more. I've been lazy and not perfected my filler pieces for the difference in tail height.

Looks good, I just noticed the front bumper and thought I'd ask.
