Here are the results of my first 100-200 km/h run after upgrading to K16 turbo. The run was started at app. 70 km/h in 3rd gear. The results were taken with Dynomaster application on HTC Android phone, speed was measured using GPS data. Here is the Excel log directly from the phone, as you can see 100-200 km/h acceleration took 11.6 sec:

data= elapsed time= altitude= bearing= speed=
0 0:00.000 150,00 231,33 100,00
1 0:00.613 150,00 231,33 104,40
2 0:01.613 150,00 231,68 119,70
3 0:02.613 149,00 232,03 129,60
4 0:03.613 149,00 232,73 142,20
5 0:04.613 149,00 232,73 152,11
6 0:05.613 149,00 232,38 162,91
7 0:06.613 151,00 232,03 178,20
8 0:07.613 151,00 232,03 182,70
9 0:08.613 151,00 232,03 187,20
10 0:09.613 151,00 231,68 191,70
11 0:10.613 152,00 231,68 196,20
12 0:11.613 152,00 231,68 198,00
13 0:12.613 152,00 231,33 193,50
14 0:13.613 152,00 230,98 186,30
15 0:14.613 153,00 230,63 178,20
16 0:15.613 153,00 229,92 171,90
17 0:16.613 153,00 229,57 168,30

P.S. you can compare this 100-200 figure by substracting 200 and 100 kph times from this data. All these cars have similar power-to weight ratio to my C70 which weights 1714 kg and has app. 400PS at the flywheel:

Kova, where are the pictures of your car??

Nice Kova! i didn't realize you got the K16 in.
i take it you are running the Autotech tune for it?
thank you for sharing the data (although the kmh always confuses me).
butt dyno - is there a noticeable difference / how does it feel?

#5 · (Edited)
yes, Autotech tune.

it's app. 62 - 124 mph run. with stock turbo and Autotech stage 3 tune it took me 17.5 sec for the same run. :)

I can describe the difference as simply amazing - instead of sudden boost attack from stock turbo which looses steam very quickly as RPM raises Autotech tune manages to make our T5 engine with K16 turbo act as V8 NA engine that pulls continuously throughout the whole RPM range. As tune is not still finished only minor boost "fluctuations" around 3500 RPM are letting down this illusion, but once the tune is polished the magic would be complete.. :p

JFC!!! WHAT!?
you knocked 6 seconds off the 62-124mph run? (17.5 vs 11.6)!!!
i am certainly no math genius but that has to be like 400 million times faster.
"simply amazing" is understatement.

please someone (ahem kova, madden) get the k16 on a dyno....

Gratz! Once the tune is complete, I will put it on the Dyno. And I concur the car pulls like a V8, but stronger. My other Volvo is a V8 conversion, headers, cams, etc. The V50 is way faster.

Now that you've compared your 100 to 200 kph to your #'s with the stage III, that's simply impressive!! I hope your out having lots of fun and surprising all those unsuspecting sports cars. I think the greatest payoff of the performance mods are when you display them to a car that would otherwise leave one of our cars in stock form wanting!!

#13 ·
6 Seconds? Jebus that turbo is a world of a difference!!!

#14 ·
Thank you guys!

Keep in mind that my C70 (1714 kg when empty) is heavier then C30/S40/V50 so your figures would be better. :D

I was also glad to notice that fuel consumption increased only app. 5% in the city (with my average speed of 24 km/h which means a lot of rush hours when going to and coming back from work) and remained the same on highway driving with K16 RS turbo.

god dang this thread is so much full of win.
Kova - what is the torque steer like now with this upgrade???
do you have quafe LSD upgrade?

#19 ·
You can have the tune written to limit low end torque.

#22 ·
NICE!!!
would love to hear the torque numbers too if you have them.

#23 ·
Wow Kova, what to you feed those horses? ;)

#29 ·
Hey hey, at first I thought you where joking until I checked the link! 100 octane. I didn't know they made some...

#26 ·
Very nice #'s Kova...the long wait paid off immensely.

I agree that the FWD drivetrain can handle the increased torque, well, unless Kova decides to take hole-shots and drag race at every stoplight. :D

Over time, the clutch is definitely going to feel it. Ripping into it today probably doesn't make sense though. It's clearly holding the power - just see the WHP. Besides, it gives another chance for mods later! Why do it all at once - before the data is even in. MHO, anyway.

Impressive result. The steadiness of that power curve is truly spectacular. Solidly engineered system, and tune.

Uf, no - I'm a little too old for that.. :D

My thoughts exactly.

What I'm now looking at is how to get additional 20 HP without changing the cams (as they are internal part).

I'm not fully convinced Elevate inlet manifold would bring such gains and I also have certain reserves if stock airbox is limiting power at this level. Pretty much the same thing is with larger IC - I currently have Heico unit wich is similar in size with Elevate product but as it fills the opeing in the bumper I'm not sure that larger unit would bring anything significant.

Any thoughts are wellcomed!

Hey Kova - good stuff mate!
i think at this point it might be interesting to see what an alternate intake would do dyno wise. if you have the means, it would be fascinating to see what (if any) results would occur with swapping out the stock box/elevate turbo pipe with an Injen or K&N open filter setup. a minimal 5% gain would get you to just about 400 and i believe both companies claim higher HP results than that.
do it! at the very least it will finally put to rest the HAI/CAI/Stock box debate....

Eventually, you'll probably have to do a SMF and clutch, but I guess a lot depends on how you drive. I toasted the DMF and stock clutch, and I'm not particularly abusive. The Spec SMF and 2+ clutch have been holding up just fine for a year now. But if you do anything else, trust me, do cams. The ENEM cams and K16 are wonderful together, I know they are expensive, but they make a huge difference.

#43 ·
While you are right about the clutch itself I have certain doubts about SMF. It certainly brings some acceleration gains, particularly in 1st and 2nd gear, but it also fails to protect gearbox from torque stresses. Tom, any thoughts on this?

ENEM cams are without doubt the most effective mods that can be done at this point, but I want to see first what this "stock oriented" setup is capable of. That would also leave Peter some time to optimize the tune for the cams.. ;)

#41 ·
K16 is looking very promising, I wanna see someone break the 400whp barrier though before I'm completely sold on it ;)
K16 turbo is not capable of providing enough flow for our engine to deliver such power. I would say 370-380 whp is a theoretical maximum limit unless you are using special fuels like E85.

#39 ·
Umm, I'm working on it. I think it's doable, software is the stumbling block.

#45 ·
Good job!

It looks like the automatic equipped C70 RS by MTE will be slightly slower 100-200km/h at 12.88sec.
Temp was around 25 Celsius on 98 RON pump gas, and measured by Racelogic P-Box.

And for comparison some other Volvos

Very good result!

I imagine automatic transmission is responsible for some additional transmission losses compared to M66 gearbox.

P.S. Temp of my run was also around 25 C, altitude was around 230m (as you can see from the logged data) and fuel was 100 RON pump gas.
