We guys and gals usually assemble late-mornng at a photo-op location with clean restrooms and pavement. Signup, meet-n-greet, pics, swap stories and lies while ogling some fine Volvos old and new. This Meet we will skip the Peoples' Choice Awards, Poker Run, door prizes, no-rules aution and mandatory silence while I'm talking and instead do the assembly stuff at Treadway Park on the west edge of town, early lunch at Jean's Feed Barn, visit McCready's Rides and Rods, tour the Robert E. Howard Home/Museum (he wrote "Conan the Barbarian" and more), check out the new Cross Plains Art Gallery then head for the house.

Oh, and keep the LIDAR hot - this part of Texas is where they lock you up 'til the fine is paid.

You can see some pics from our older Texas Meets here...

...so expect to have your R in a bunch of pictures.

      Come on down!

Below is an email from Debbie Gosnell, Cross Plains City Administrator, with a threat to have the town's newspaper cover our Volvo Meet so y'all be prepared to smile!

      -------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Mr. Dill:
How fun! So glad you guys have chosen to visit Cross Plains. All the Barbarians have gone, or at least will be by October, except for those of us who live here. LOL.
The Park’s official name is “Treadway Park”. We’re doing some renovations to Treadway Park and we hope you enjoy using it. We’ve added a walking bridge to connect the front & back side of the park, new restrooms and currently working on a nice entry gate to the back side of the park. Should be finished and looking great by the time you get here.
McCready’s is still going strong, so please stop in. I’ll pass along that you guys will be stopping by.
Also, if you haven’t toured our new Art Gallery you MUST take time to do so. It’s top notch, and for little ole CP it’s out of this world. They really did a great job and I promise it will be worth your time to stop in. I’ll also pass along that you guys will be in town. They love to make a group’s visit special.
Era Lee Hanke is the gal that will give you the tour of the REH Museum. Her email and phone number is jehanke@aol.com 254-725-6562. She loves showing the museum and she’ll get y’alls picture and have a big write up in our weekly newspaper, the Cross Plains Review. Give her your address and she’ll send you a copy.
If I can be of further help, please feel free to contact me.
      Sincerely,
      Debbie Gosnell

Having read the reviews for Cross Plains' motels - If you plan to arrive a day early consider a Friday night lodging in Brownwood.

      Hello George,

We’re looking forward to your Volvo Club coming to Cross Plains. We would be delighted for you to stop in at City Hall and say “Hi” when you’re in town. We always have coffee on for our “drop in” visitors and welcome the opportunity to say hi to our Cross Plains Fans. As the weeks pass, if you can think of other things you’d like to see or visit while in town, please do not hesitate to contact me. We’re small, but we love having folks come to town and stop in for a visit. You seem very familiar with Cross Plains so I won’t go into detail, but we have been working on sprucing up Treadway Park and hope you enjoy the new walking bridge and new restroom facilities we’ve added. Our plans are to continue upgrading the park with other amenities, such as a pavilion, park benches and tables on the back side. Please visit our downtown and enjoy a stroll down Main Street. We have a quaint restaurant downtown as well as shops and you certainly won’t want to miss stopping in at Higginbotham’s (general store). I know you’ll enjoy the tour of the Howard Museum provided by Project Pride, and J’s Art and Soul is top of the line when it comes to art. Many larger communities cannot compare and we are proud to have them here. Looking forward to your visit.

      Hi George
It was a tough decision but I sold my PV this weekend. The good news is it went to a Volvo lover in Phoenix (whose son is in San Angelo).
Just wanted to let you know if you don't see me in Cross Plains next month. Thanks for all your help

Well, the weather was perfect, the cars were great and lunch was memorable. It was a small turn out; holding a meet in west Texas seemed to cull the field somewhat.

And, we were graced with George Dill and his Amish approved digital camera...
