Source for Dana 30 ring and pinion - got it!
I have a 1971 142E. After checking the wear pattern, we have pretty much concluded that the ring and pinion gears on my Dana 30 are pretty much toast (the mechanic suggested that if I didn't like the whine from the back end, I could turn the radio up - real loud). According to the info that I have (I haven't actually counted the teeth), the 142E had a 4.3:1 rear end.
I am having some trouble sourcing a new ring and pinion. Motive Gear lists a 4.27:1 and 4.56:1 ring and pinion set for the Dana 30 rear; however, their catalogue specifies 26 spline rather than 27 spline. So far, I have not been able to find any other sources. Does anybody know of a supplier for new ring and pinions for the Dana 30?
Have you tried some of the outfits that sell to the 4 wheel drive market? Randy's Ring and Pinion comes to mind.( sorry I don't have a link but google will)
Maybe that's what Motive Gear is I've never heard of them.
After doing the research for this thread...

Below are links with MANY Dana 30 ring and pinion gear sets options - make sure you have some time on your hands before clicking through this mess. Most gear sets can be eliminated quickly by their ratios, cut, direction, etc.
Also - consider installing a seal kit with the new gears (sometimes offered with the gear sets).
I ended up ordering a Yukon Gear 4.56:1 from Randy's Ring and Pinion. Their differential 'wizard' lists it as a direct fit for the 27 spline Volvo Dana 30. I dropped it off with the shop doing the rebuild and I haven't heard anything back from them about it being a no-fit.
New seals and maybe new bearings are definitely part of the package. I intend to do this once. Just about every other movable or wearable part on this car is being replaced so I am not going to go cheap now!
