ouch. Yeah, that's realistically the only thing that could catch on fire in the driver's seat. I like my heated seats but this is scary stuff. I wonder if replacing the heating pads with new ones periodically would resolve this problem. My understanding is that point loading the seats (like if you kneel on the seat to reach in for something) can break the wires and cause this condition.

I honestly have no idea whats causing it, but my have been disconnected for years since I only use the car during summer anyways.

Yeah it seems very likely that the seat heaters were the cause. It was a nice clean car, had actually sold it to my younger brother a few months before this happened. It's a real shame, bummer no doubt, but life goes on.

The seat heating element got broken on my 850 many years ago (the first Volvo I owned) and it started to smoke but I caught it before it did any damage to the car - just a small hole in the seat foam, didn't even put a hole in the seat cover. It happens due to exactly as you describe it. It is also a problem on the P2 gen cars.

That really sucks about that wagon: ( But yeah, life goes on, at least no one was hurt!

My 850 had the seat heater recall work done, and I'm not sure how hot they were before, but they barely heat up at all now which sucks, I'm guessing they dialed them down a lot as a precaution. My S70 seat heaters could definitely singe some ball hairs though 😂

Just finished engine and manual swap. Needs a good cleaning and a few hiccups worked out, but runs and drives!

I will soon plasti dip my 850 satin black and do an offset red stripe down the driver's side of the car. Will post pics, I'm thinking next weekend.

Slowly finishing up my front mount install and fog light install. My OCD is kicking in with that intercooler not being centered with the bumper. Thought I had it measured right.. simple fix. I love the look of a front mount on these cars

I wish they had a wider mouth to show it off and to have better cooling efficiency. The S60R really looks mean with a FMIC.

      You doing OEM fogs?

Yea me too lol I'm just trying to get away from heat soak in the hotter months. Yea I added oem fogs, it's hard to see in that picture but they re there. Pretty straight forward install with it being wired from the factory for them. Only thing that really sucked was being upside down under the steering wheel putting he J relay in the top left corner of the relay panel. Everything come from a car in the junkyard including, the front bumper

Had to re-do my drift stitches after hitting 2 small snowdrifts in a row in the crazy snow we had. I still have more to fix but it'll hold for now.

Just had mine detailed. Now I feel the need to get a paintless dent repair person to try and pull the dents out of my car's tailgate and doors.

Thank you. It's in great shape, considering the age and that it has 184k miles. It was very well kept by the original and previous owner (I'm #3). Not a spot of rust underneath - it was a CA car up until recently. I'm going to do my best to keep it up (and improve it). Hoping I can have the dents pulled out by a PDR shop. That pearl white paint is just too hard to match, from what I've heard.

You're right, it would be really hard to match that paint at this point. A good PDR guy can work wonders.

Eh it's not that hard to match #424 platinum pearl metallic. My platinum has had several things painted, incl. rear bumper and spoiler, and its fine. Just get a good shop and leave the car with them so they can test matches.
