There are Apps to send any Audio Data to the "Phone" BT-Protocol. Sound is not the best, but you could at least try that.

Are there any alternatives to the Blupower head unit? I don't know if I want to wait a lifetime to take a risk of a largely unknown product or company, and all I really need is an aux or bluetooth set up. I know there's a thread for the basic sound system, but mine is premium sound.

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated.

The cheapest way to get those in any car is a small radio transmitter. As replacement HUs go this seems to be the only one except of going for original Volvo parts. Though doesn't the premium already offer at least aux?

Aux-inputs didn't come standard until at least midway through the 2007 model year.

There's also the GROM unit available, but it seems to be quite expensive too. (and not perfectly reliable either)

Yeah, apparently that GROM unit is only for the single disc CD player.

I guess I'll just wait for BluPower. That's the unit I want, but I was hoping to have it installed and ready for my road trip to Yellowstone.

Well, the last email I received from Blupower was in May. They said it would be 4 weeks. Still nothing. That's really annoying.

So after 3 months of delays, crickets, and dead ends, I'm starting to zero in on the GROM-MST4 USB Android iPhone integration kit.

This seems ideal, but I'm currently trying to get info on the extra accessories required for bluetooth and aux.

Well, I thought I made a thread, but maybe it was deleted or failed to post.

Anyway, after 3 months of research, waiting, and doubt, I've finally got my BLP-990 on order. Now I wait.

I kinda wish this thread were more active, as I'd love some feedback on the unit. I'm taking a leap of faith, but I'm really excited for it.

That's the problem in my opinion.... Everyone who installed this unit (seen on multiple forums) posted back with pictures and excitement, then silence. Makes me question if people are regretting the purchase, especially considering how expensive it is.

Please keep us update once you receive it and long term use!

I'm super happy that I have bluetooth and mp3 audio in my car now! Any of my minor complaints pale in comparison to how glad I am to have those two things.

Yeah, your review was most valuable. I'm looking forward to listening to my music on my commute and road trips. Man, I wish I had it when I drove to Yellowstone in June.

      Freakin finally!

No confirmation of payment or shipping with tracking number or anything... just faith that it would show up. But it did.

Now the matter of the install.

      Hey guys,

I've been following this thread for a while. Recently installed my unit so wanted to post a review for anyone interested.

Overall i'm happy with the unit. It has some small issues that I can live with it. The first time i drove after having it installed it gave some .exe error and i had to shut off and restart it. There's also some other nuances that i think are specific to the "high performance w/aux" system but again nothing major.

Display - i find it to be a good quality display. initially i couldn't see anything with the sun glare but in the video settings i turned on the backlight and it was 10x better. At night it looks great. Good resolution and color quality. It's pretty responsive as well. Also physically fits well and looks close to OEM.

GPS - i'm in canada so it came with the north american version - not sure who it's made by. I was actually surprised that it wasn't clunky at all for basic use. Loads quick. Finds signals/directions very fast, and the visuals are decent enough. Two annoying things are the speed limit voice warnings and that it doesn't say street names via voice, only directions, although I haven't messed around a lot in the settings to see if either can be changed. Also no traffic data from what i could tell. The below video shows the start up time and a little more. the search feature is really quick as well for simple things like 'gas' or 'bank'.

Bluetooth overall i thought it was cool. i like using the physical number buttons on the console to dial. interface is pretty clean/simple. sound quality on calls was good as well as for songs thru my phone. using the steering wheel to control tracks on my phone was nice as well as before i only had aux and no bluetooth.

Radio i want to like this but i find the interface a bit too busy. also i'm struggling with changing tracks thru the touch screen. i think once you get past the learning curve it's not bad. if you press the am/fm button on your console it brings up the old-school radio and i prefer that - it also has better quality but not sure if that's an installation issue on my part.

Sound not sure if it's because of more equalizer options but I definitely noticed an improvement in the sound. System is able to go louder and stay clear vs before.

Also - they mislabled the "line out" as "line in" on my unit so if you have install issues give that a try. For the "high performance w/aux" model it's also very finicky - if you're having issues, turn the unit off from the glovebox, put the car in aux mode and try turning the unit back on. You have to leave it in aux mode unless you want to use the ol

That's pretty much all i can think of. i don't regret the purchase at all but it was pretty expensive for what you get (i.e no wifi / apple /android connectivity). I plan to get a few more years out of my car so it made sense to upgrade for me. If anyone has more questions just let me know.

So my latest V50 has the cheapo sound system. It looks to have an amp in the left rear quarter but it only has tweeters up front, none in back. Overall it sounds like crap after having a V50 with the Premium Sound (non-Dynaudio). I think I'm going to to take the Bluepower plunge.

So, how is the sound quality of the Bluepower compared to the cheapo system, High Performance or Premium Sound?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these. How did the payment method work? I see they have Payson and Bank Wire.

      Some thoughts on BluePower BLP-990

I just got this installed, and have a few additional thoughts about it:

      1. In order to get sound from the CD/DVD player, an additional RCA cable is required (not included in the package). I had to go buy a 3 ft RCA cable in order for that to work.
      2. Navigation is NOT included. I had to purchase a microSD card and download the navigation software from BluePower. Then had to unzip and copy to the microSD card and install into the GPS slot.
      3. Radio reception, at least here in Seattle, is pitiful. Luckily the original radio controls work and sound pretty good.

Other than that, it works pretty good. My phone connects via bluetooth pretty quickly, and the A2DP sound is good. Hands-free phone calls sound pretty good too.
It's pretty expensive considering it doesn't come as a complete package, but it's better than the original/stock unit.

It was honestly a pain in the ass to purchase. They have Payson and Bank Wire (the latter is the route I took) but after asking about the payment process, they revealed to me that they also take VISA :/

BTW, mine wasn't able to be installed after finding that my stock wiring harness was replaced with aftermarket wiring.

So if anyone with a Premium Audio 2005-07 S40/V50 is interested, I'll cut you a deal and save you the headache.

How is the climate control, phone module and other ghraphics that was on the original display represented on this new one? The steering wheels controls are 100% functional with this new setup?
