      New guy with a 2015.5 V60

      Hello everyone,

I am new to the forums and to the Volvo brand. Recently bought a 2015.5 V60 T6 R-Design for an amazing price. Have always been a Japanese car guy, mostly Subaru and Nissan. But trying to find a performance wagon in the USA was a challenge, and ended up loving the V60 after driving it. Wanted a Polestar, but the extra money didn't seem worth it for a daily driver. Maybe I will mod a few things like I always do.

Looking forward to contributing and learning from you all.

      Thanks,

      Nick

Got over $6k off MSRP, so was pretty happy with that.

So have put almost 500 miles on the RD, loving it more and more. No regrets here, and still have yet to see another V60 on the road here in Chicagoland.

Mod plans are as follows: ceramic 35% tint, Volvo load bars with Thule bike rack. Down the road may do rear sway bar, exhaust, throw some winter tires on the stock 18" wheels and get something else for next summer. And if Polestar ever decides to sell them, want that Ohlins setup. Had Ohlins struts on my 04 STi, it was such a great improvement over the stock struts.

Also, I am liking these different gauge themes, but have decided to stick with the performance one.

(got the E bonus too, probably won't see that again after she is broken in hahaha)

      Congrats!
Looks a lot like my car when it was still completely stock.
I also prefer the performance gauges ... have never used the other ones for more than 5 minutes

Doesn't the RD come standard with a rear sway bar?
You think it is worth updating to the IPD sway bar?

      Marco.
Yeah it does have a rear sway bar stock, but I have read the IPD one is larger and allows a little better handling/rotation. For like $250, it may be worth exploring.

Don't forget about contrast mode! ECO + Contrast and Elegance + Contrast (with the R-Design blue) are a nice touch!

Thanks. I will be keeping the 18" Ixions for awhile, but they may get relegated to winter duty if I decide on a new set of wheels. Debating on 19s vs 20s and whether I want to lower this car at all. I do like several of the OZ wheels as well as BBS, but we will see!

The new model doesn't have the R-design logo stitching anymore in the front seats?

So installed the Volvo cross bars on the car this weekend. Still deciding on what Thule bike attachment to go with.

Hey Nick, your car looks great! Regarding your quandry about wheel size and/or lowering, I will tell you I have 19" wheels on mine and have also thought about lowering it. Talking to my mechanic at the dealership, he has convinced me I will have too much to lose as far ride comfort just to gain the aesthetic. I will be interested to see which way you go. Congrats again on the great car!

Nice one Nick. I got mine with the 19" Ixions, so I'm looking for 18" for the winter. These look really nice: http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-...CC-482917/2015. I saw them in this thread: http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...w-daily-driver
The 20-inch Cratus further in that thread look really awesome too.

300 a pop for winter wheel seems a bit excessive so I will be looking for used Volvo wheels or go after market route.

      Congrats on your new "sleeper!"
      Cheers

Thanks! Appreciate the input. I would need the lowering to not only look better but also perform better. There is usually some sort of tradeoff with comfort, and since this is a DD, not sure I want to deal with that. Most likely I will only upgrade wheels and only consider suspension mods if the stock stuff wears out or the Polestar Ohlin dampers become available.

Thanks. Yeah that is a little expensive for a winter wheel. I bet something will turn up used before the snow drops again.

Looks good! I went with the Thule Criterium bike attachments as the materials (mostly solid aluminum) and construction are first rate. These are better than the Mont Blanc (or sold by VW/Audi) Barracuda attachments I previously used.

I found them for nearly $100 off the Thule retail at Boston Village Volvo, plus they have "Volvo" painted on them. Get'em while you still can!

We have both down tube and fork mount Thule racks and prefer the latter. In strong crosswinds light weight road bikes can move around more than the wife prefers with the down tube ones.

Thanks Pete. Also appreciate the heads up on that sale. I have always used fork mounts as they seemed more stable, but at that cost, it is worth looking at further.

One thing to think about with using a rack that grips the downtube is that they are better used with metal-framed bikes; carbon fiber frames don't respond well to the crushing force that can be associated with (accidental) overtightening.

And also triple-butted aluminum frames. My old Giant NRS down tube sounds like a beer can when I tap on it. I haven't used the down tube mount with my CF Santa Cruz, but I think that its strong enough.

Thanks for that bit of advice.

I ended up purchasing a Thule Sprint 528 fork mount. More $ than the Volvo one that Pete posted a link for, but I think it will be a better and sturdier mount for my bike.
