Well talking about wildlife. Skippy decided to kamakazi the '90 on the way to work today. Came like a bouncing cruise missile from the bush into the side of my car......

Took out the drivers mirror (right side?) and left a small dent under the door handle. He also got a shave from the rear wheel guard leave a good chunk of fur on the arch.!

Not sure how smart the wildlife is on your side of the pond but these Kangaroos are some of the dumbest going around.

Mind you I'm impressed with how well the body work held up. These things can weigh as much as a deer and if it wasn't for the fact the paint was cracked around the small dent I wouldn't? be so fussed about it. (Apart from the destroyed mirror of course)

It's not just the deer over here. Last year I had a grizzly bear nearly peg my left side going full speed, I'm pretty sure I brushed it's nose.

That kit is pretty neat especially with the integrated switch. It remembers the position so every time you pull the high beam it turns them on. They can also be disabled if the switch is turned off while the lights are on.

Here are some pics. Install took about 30min.

Where did you get that Volvo license plate holder kit for holding lights? Would it work for a 2005 XC70 and what is the part #? Thank you

Yes the kit still exists at the local dealers, mine took 1 day to get delivered to the dealer. Cost me 143$ out the door with tax and everything.

Bake in an oven at 250 degrees for an hour to 2 hours, then pry super gently with a flathead screwdriver.

I baked by XC60 headlights for 10-20 minutes at a time at 220 degrees and got some scorching in one small spot on the interior chromed plastic. I would definitely not recommend 250* for 2hrs!!!

I am used to doing 180F by about 5min and that has always worked for me. The higher temps just scare me!

Good to know! The Ford headlights I did would not come apart, that's why I said 1-2 hours. Really good to know it won't take nearly as long for the XC90!

Looking good! It's cool to see you and your son tinkering with basically the same car and what your styles are! Question though, when you resealed the headlights, did you reuse the factory gunk or scrape it off and use new stuff? If so, what brand?

Xwelder, could you share the wheel size details (front and rear, width, offset), I was looking at those exact TSW wheels, and wanted to go wider than stock and at 20", something like your rear size on all 4 corners. Do you know if the rears will fit on the fronts, did you every try? Im guessing they might be close to the front strut both above the tire and to the inside of the sidewall/upper shoulder, but with the right offset, they shoulder work, just don't want the tires sticking out past the flares, but there is plenty of room.

They look great on the white, I would be doing on silver.

Should not be enough of a difference to adversely affect the system, especially when you consider manufacturing tolerance variations. If I had used the same tire and stretched it over the rear rims, I'd have more of a difference as that would have decreased the effective OD due to the angle of the sidewall. It took some time to find the tire sizes that would work for this set up.

    23. #722
      oneofakind,
from this pic, it looks like even though you are running the stock wheels, that they are sitting out a bit further out, are you running spacers, or is it that the tires are just wider (can you share your size)?
Looks really good, a wider stance, but maybe its just deceiving from the picture.

Bought the Dueler H/L Alenza tires and Neptune wheels noted in an earlier post for my '05. Super nice guy who sold them, tires have 75% plus tread and wheels have but a few curb rashes. I'll take them in for a balance check, swap them out a little later in the year on the current set (also Dueler H/L Alenza, 2 years old), and get my old wheels mounted with dedicated snows on them in time for winter.

Any suggestions for reasonable cost good longevity 235/65 R17 dedicated snows?

Hey sorry about that, it didn't notify me and I totally missed your post! They're the stock Vulcanis rim with a spacer. I changed my brakes over to the S60R brembo ones, so without a spacer they wouldn't fit. It's a 25mm spacer I ordered from ebay. They're quite nice, but you need to either grind down your stock wheel lugs or buy shorter headed ones. Otherwise the lugs leave a small gap between the rim and spacer.

For tire size, currently my winters are 255/50R19, and my summers are 245/55R19. The only reason my summers are different is because I wanted a taller tire to fill the whole wheel well, and any other widths were special order and $80-120 in freight.

Winter and summer comparison. Ignore the snow with my summer tires😑

Well, not "today" per se, but the 90 is at The Swede Shop in Hadley, PA getting new struts, spring seats, strut bearings, bump stops and bellows. If you, too, would like to forgo the foolishness of Bobby Rahal Volvo in Pittsburgh (that's a story for another day), let me know and I'll put you in contact with a Volvo master tech who can help.

Time for new summer tires for the Ronal RT's. Went with Verde summer's. They are N0 and the Macan owners seem happy with them.

Been chasing a rattle in the passenger door forever. Most of it is in the outside door handle but there were other bits that buzzed a bit too. Thought I had it tamed with an MLV layer I built myself from shower pan and open cell foam but then I discovered a fantastic song that I just had to turn up. Really found the sweet spot for resonating anything not 100% tight.

Second Skin had some B stock Luxury Liner Pro at a huge discount so I figured I'd give it a try. Popped the door card off (for like the 1000'th time), drilled out the rivets and installed 5mm Nutserts.
I wanted to remove the capacitor bucket and the midrange driver from the bracket so I could just cut a circle in the new MLV, discovered they are only screwed on so that was easy.
Installed industrial strength outdoor velcro, trimmed and hung the sheet of MLV on the door. Stuff is heavy!
Put the door card back on. Killed 90% of the rattles trying to get inside.

I fixed the leak in my power steering system.
I couldn't find it until i bought some multipurpose dye oil and a UV flashlight. Turns out it was leaking out the back side of the pump's return hose, so it was impossible to observe without the dye.

Turns out you can't get the O-ring from volvo because it is, to them, a part of the power steering pump. You have to take off the plastic engine covers and the serpentine belt cover to access the connection. There is a metal elbow that bolts onto the pump with a single bolt.
I drained the PS reservoir by unclipping it from the coolant reservoir and disconnected the return hose at the reservoir. After removing the elbow and cleaning everything I used a new regular O-ring and put "right stuff" (from permatex) around the flange and replaced it.
      No more leak!

Through the winter I had been using ordinary PS fluid to top it up. I now flushed the bad fluid by chasing it with the proper CHF compatible fluid. That made a huge difference. Steering is much quieter and lighter than before.

I vinyl wrapped the cupholder cover, gear shift surround, and glove box trim in simulation brushed aluminum. It looks alright but kinda tacky because I still have my wood steering wheel and wood gear shift. I think the combination would look better if I had the off-black interior as the bright silver will stand out against the dark leather, but that's not my case... I'll give it a few weeks and see if the silver/tan combo grows on me.

i have 20x8.5, et40 front an 20x10 et40 rear. the front is close to the strut, but i think a 10" wide could fit. i wanted the staggered look, so i never checked if a 10"
      would work.

I got a cheap set of OEM wheels for snow tire set up!

      Paid 150$ for a set of 4 OEM 6spoke 18x7.5 wheels.

      4 OEM sensors 45$

And 4 Nokian Norseman 5 tires for 200$

All and all total 400$ which is not bad for OEM set up.
