Los Angeles, CA – Hot on the heels of the introduction of Volvo's first V8 engine at the 2004 Paris International Auto Show, Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) is proud to present the eye-grabbing supercharged XC90 V8 at this year's Greater Los Angeles auto show.
And there may be no better place to show the audacious Swede than Los Angeles. Covered in a luscious yellow paint scheme, the Volvo XC90 PUV will keep the drivers of high-end European exotic cars glancing in their rearview mirrors.
"This supercharged XC90 is a great way to illustrate the supercharged year of sales we've had," noted Vic Doolan, President and CEO of VCNA, "It could possibly be the ultimate Volvo. It has all the safety that Volvo is known for with the looks and performance of an exotic vehicle." But a concept it will remain as neither VCNA nor the Volvo Car Corporation may ever offer anything like the XC90 PUV. Noted Doolan, "This is just to get the juices flowing; to draw attention to the Volvo brand in a way that we haven't before."

I was going to use an I word but they would be absolutely crazy not to produce this.
I'm suspecting that that is the red car with different rims on it but then graphically changed to be yellow
I would have to agree, if you look at the photos in motion, the wheels give the appearance of having an lip, just like on the red one, I would think they photochoped the color from red to yellow, and used some of the same motion shots.
Yeah but take a close look at the new Moose. (It's uuugly!)The color in this hi-res image is a little fishy. But they're going to put it on the floor in LA - can't photoshop that.

Actually, there are 2 cars. One Yellow one Red.
I saw the Red car in person and was told of the Yellow one. There are no production plans sadly.
Horsepower is a four letter word to the Swedes.![]()
I think the images are partially fake, but I am sure it will be a real yellow one at the show.It costs a lot more to do a photo shoot than to fake the color on some existing photos.

As someone who has done a *ton* of photochop (image manipulation) ... I can assure you these images are just 'chopped versions of the red one's photo shoot. As mentioned, it's a cheaper way to produce press material (than a reshoot) and the marketing departments at auto makers worldwide do this all the time. Audi is infamous for shooting Euro-spec models, then photochopping as many Euro-spec details as possible out (such as clear turn signals/parking lamps, Euro registration plate openings, etc) then reusing as US-spec press/marketing material.
Those wheels look great on the 90...

Well, I can only hope that Moose is a bad chop-burp. Use the hi-res to blow it up and you'll see what I mean. I went and looked because they called it the "raging moose" in the text, where it used to be "prancing moose". The prancing one was a nice wink of a joke. The raging one looks like something out of Hunter S. Thompson.Tom.

Does anyone know who makes the wheels that were on the Red XC90 PUV at Sema?
any rendition with less unpainted trim/cladding looks better![]()
It's not a photochop, it's a new car. Check out the L.A. Auto Show gallery here.....http://www.swedespeed.com/gall...Volvo
The car exists. They built a second one for the L.A. Auto Show. The reason it looks a bit odd in coloring is probably because they dialed up the yellow in photoshop. That tends to happen when you do that.
As for the rim lip.... who says you can't swap out the wheels?

I wasn't disputing the legitimacy of a Yellow PUV ... if they said there'd be on at the LA Show, one has to exist.
But I assure you, 100%, those "press photos" on the PR site are photochopped images using the red one from last year's show circuit. I've done hundreds of vehicle re-colors (and hundreds more p'chops in general) and could give a technical analysis of why they are not legit if anyone likes. The hi-res image Tom linked in particular is tell-tale (reflections, cut lines (e.g. hood/doors), shadows, etc). Hell, give me a couple hours and I'll make the Red "prancing moose" PUV whatever color you want ... and do a better job than Volvo's marketing person.

I'm glad to see they kept the moose even though I can't see what the new version of the moose looks like.

WOW they moved those wheels way out. Looks awful (MHO) - kind of like a Durango from this angle.
BTW, what's the point of supercharging it for a show if they don't open the d*mn hood?

I agree, the wheels are too far out, I thought the same thing when I saw the first pictures. Must be that the wheels were not available in the right offset or some other reason?

I wonder if that Yellow XC90 was a Silver in its "previous life" like the Red one was...

The pictures of the yellow XC90 at the actual show has its side mouldings color coded, the ones of the car which look similar to that of the red XC90 which I believe are simply photoshoped have non-color coded side mouldings, just like the red XC90.And to think I wasn't that good at spot the difference back in playschool!

I know, they must have moved it into the passenger seat, and taken out the interior fenders to get a V8 and a decent tranny under the hood then add a roots supercharger and the hood must be up as high as Hummer. Will the wonders of swedish engineering ever cease.
I'm sure in you architectural line of work, Mr.P, if a client wants a closet, you need to put an extra shed roof on the building.

Well, they are still working at it...I have looked under the hood of the RED XC90 and it is just a sweet-looking regular T6 engine
with just an intercooler upgrade.
