god I hate automatics sooooooooo much; almost as much as poly mounts. But if the 55-50 is doing it automatically you have to be back on the power for it to go back in gear......I'm not on the power yet when I put it back in gear. Still bad?

That's why I mentioned anecdotal evidence of line pressure being a part of the problem...

And as an engineer you should marvel at the automatic... there's a whole hydraulic computer in there and it uses planetary sets--what's cooler? I wish the R had a DCT...

Sure, it's a technological marvel.....I just happen to not be a fan. I've not yet driven anything with a DCT so maybe I'd like that better, but I know I'm not a fan of traditional TC automatics.

Daily a manual Volvo that isn't a P2R and your mind will change--don't know why volvo decided on the gear ratios for the m56... And even a P2R gets annoying after awhile honestly. Everyone else has an auto and assumes you do too so they get angry when you aren't inching up that hill with them...

My dad's been doing that in his V70 for about 7 years......and that's also the car I learned to drive in. The problem I have with the M56H is that it's no good for going over 45 mph. Can't wait for my M66D.

I'm not concerned with whether the dude behind me is angry about moving up 6 inches; his anger, his blood pressure, his grey hair/hair loss (uh oh better buy some of that hair cream that was advertised on Rush's show today, so now his money, too), not my problem.

What? M56h is wonderful with say 250 wheel hp....snappy, maybe 4th could be a little shorter but damn it's a lovely pairing.

I'm completely fine with the gears that are there; there just aren't enough of them as evidenced by the fact that the fuel economy tanks after 45-50 mph. The M66D is basically a M56LK with another gear which is exactly what we need. If I don't need to downshift to pass/go up hills, there aren't enough gears. I don't need it to be snappy when I'm cruising across Indiana at 75 mph and there are no curves, no hills, and no traffic; what I need is for the engine to not be running at 3000 RPM on cruise control for hours on end so I can be doing something better than 28 mpg.

I got 33 mpg at 75 mph over a period of 10 hours in 5th, AC on, PS3s and 100 ambient outside temp. I think that it's me7 ultimately being more efficient that makes up that difference and the t5 block itself.

A temporary hijack is all. Maybe Scottish should start a thread about gas mileage in P80s, he seems to have quite a bit of data.

I'm talking about the '99 getting that kind of fuel economy. Are you thinking ME7 is that much better than Denso? The B5234T3 is theoretically quite a bit less thermodynamically efficient than the B5244S, something like 3-5% iirc.

What did you get at 65? Like 36?

Haven't posted in a while, been spending some time on the S60 as well as moving into a new house. Time to start doing a bit of prep, as I'm going to show her at the IPD Garage Sale this June 17. Should be a nice road trip. Wanting her to look her best, I thought I'd take care of a few of the accumulated paint chips from past years. Picked up a Dr. ColorChip kit, paint match is very close. Here is a before and after of work that took maybe 15 minutes.

Depends on how much your paint has faded over the years.

Thanks for the reminder. When the corner got taken out by a wild pig, what's on there is all the body shop could source. If you happen to have the correct PN, I'll place an order!

Unfortunately the price has skyrocketed since I last bought them a year or so ago. $65 each! Maybe take the part numbers from here and shop them around to the other volvo part sites?

      http://www.tascaparts.com/auto-parts...ark-lamps-scat

Actually now that I think about it I probably paid that last year. It was back in 07 when I rebuilt my first one that they were only $40 each. Sorry for the misdirection.

I must be seeing something weird in the pictures then. Look like vertical lines across the front.

If they look like this then they're already the real deal:

Bob said one side of the headlamps was broken by a collision with a wild pig and has not yet been replaced with a new jewel corner. Apparently it was the passenger side, shown in the pic.

Had a great time at the IPD garage sale and show, thought I'd share a few pic's from the event. The approx 3K mile road trip was a complete joy. The '99 performed flawlessly without a single squeak, or cluck from anywhere. Even the AC handled coming home in 115 deg heat!
