And now it will be a perfect R OEM replacement, color matched. I was able to locate new via Tasca. You need to get over it, it's been well over two years and life happens!

Huh, I just mentioned that it was a laser bumper originally. Since it was already painted by me, what's that stupid comment about?

Turns out the turbine wheel is back ordered for two weeks, so when the car is back I'll start on brakes and suspension. Meanwhile I thought I'd start prep on the manifold with a little ceramic coating.

As long as I had it all apart, I figured why not clean up the hot side a bit and give it a ceramic coating also.

Cleaning and painting parts is so satisfying. I drove my first C70 for 4-1/2 years with rusty brake calipers, when I replaced it I finally took the time to clean and paint them. 4 years later they still look fantastic and clean up with nothing more than a power wash.

      Nicely done.

Yep, doing it myself. Used this stuff before and it holds up pretty well. If nothing else it's great for corrosion mitigation!

Ric's Body and Paint in Scottsdale did a fine job on the repair, even returned it nicely washed. Might be able to get some serious work done this weekend if the weather stays below 100!

They should have returned it with the windshield wipers all the way down, too!

By the way, how are those headlight wipers working out in AZ ? They look mint.

Agreed. That very minor issue resolved itself with the turn of a key. Wipers are just fine, except the driver side hangs vertical sometimes but resets when you restart the car. Not worth troubleshooting or fixing for that matter.

      Bob,
That looks terrific once again. I LOVED that T5 (my left leg did not)...
Bob, do you still have the Thor wheels and if so do you want to sell them back to me?

Also do you have my original picture file from the day I bought it to when I was finished with it? If not, I would be happy to send it to you if you want it for posterity.

Bob, would a correct rattle can from IPD done myself get the bumpers to look as good as the single stage factory paint, or am I wasting my time to get it right?

I can't really give you an honest answer to your question. The new R bumper I purchased was not factory painted, the body shop matched and applied the paint. So I have no idea what results you might obtain from a rattle can.

All back together and ready to install once I get to that part of the plan. Robert's 'how to video' was a real help; https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DB8_IfzAL0M With that the only other thing I'd recommend for this particular job, is make sure you have a really good pair of snap ring pliers, the large one is a mother.

      Are you serious?
Absolutely not. If you want it to look perfectly like new you need a professional auto painter and it done in a paint booth.
Now there are bumper painters that come around to dealers, but they usually do spot/corners blending repair, they (usually) do not do a complete bumper outside. However they still use a paint gun.

Agree with Jim. I've seen some danm good rattle can jobs but there is no competing with a real paint setup.

Also, there were no single stage bumpers (at least on P80s). Even the bumpers on the single stage colors (like 189, 607, 609, etc.) all have clearcoat, as do all of the other plastic parts.

I have a friend who can rattle can as good as factory. He does a TON of spoilers and bumpers and stuff like that, so he does it all the time and has perfected the prep and techniques he needs to do it well.

I paint maybe once every 5 years. When I try to rattle can something it looks like garbage.

You have to ask yourself which one of us you sound like. Your results will depend on it.

Whatever floats his boat. I painted my lasers calipers black so they look nice but don't stand out cuz they're still stock 302 brakes lol.
I feel like if they're gunna be flashy colors they should be substantial brakes like Brembos or Stop-Techs or Ciekas or something.

Bob: I went with blue and added these decals sold on eBay. Very pleased. You could consider the red as a base coat.

I was thinking red as that is the color of the new Do88 piping going in the engine bay which adds IMHO an interesting contrast against all the white. I'm just not sold on this shade of red. Plus I need to do a bit of sanding before a second coat.
