Or a boot. I just have boat shoes in the back of the wagon usually. Anything to keep the pull lever pushed back.

      Bad Parts!

Just a note of caution on replacement parts.

I ordered a set of C70 Jewel headlights that seemed to be a quality product. I then also ordered replacement side lenses, these from Ebay made by TYC and sold by Sonic Motors.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/191055865020

      Beware:

Both lenses came damaged and defective. Had to apply for a return and refund. Replacements are coming from 1A Auto, who has been pretty good on quality in the past. These parts could not have been made cheaper. I suggest you stay way from TYC replacement parts.

Those are incorrect and do not match C70 jewels.
Side plastic is CLEAR like the headlights, those are ribbed to match the standard lights

You need the ones like on my old R, THESE: (I think you may have to order them from Volvo).

Pretty much any aftermarket corner light will have strange fitment and be of questionable quality.

The correct OEM part #s are:

If you dislike the yellow reflector these aftermarket ones are decent quality and cheaper (i run them):

Venetian Red 2000 V70R AWD Being Brought Back!

As soon as I get the car back! Bumpers are currently being repainted (again), as the first shoot had debris in them!

In the meantime, here is the "Before" shot!

The hood on my dad's '99 V70 used to do that. His hood had been damaged at some point in the past and had been replaced with a '98 hood. The repaint on that hood failed so we recently replaced it with either a '99 or 2000 hood and now the hood releases fine on the first try.
Just seen this reading through this. I had this scenario with my 850, but it was the passengers side that the cable had gotten out of place when I did the radiator on it and it come undone from the latch itself. There's a video online from Robert DIY that shows the v70 way of getting it to pop loose. I took a welding rod and bent it up into certain bends to get mine undone. Took me about 3-4hours to finally click mine open. I also had a spare hood latch off of my parts car to go by and know where to push at. Hope you have solved this issue already. If so how did you get yours undone?

Mine has never failed completely. To date, it has just refused to pop up on the drivers side, requiring a couple of retrys to pop up that side.

While at the body shop, my guy has lubricated the hinge latch which has helped some. He also noted a mis-alignment of the hinge causing friction with the latch. We expect we can hammer align the latch hinge a bit to remove the friction. I should know more when I get it back in the next day or so. Hope never to have to go through what you had to do!

Glad you hear you didn't. Mine happened right after I did a complete overhaul of the cooling system by myself that took me around 8 hours total to do. Needless to say there was a couple of cuss words and questioning of ownership when this happened lol

Yikes. Not something you want to encounter.

Looking at the latches, it seems the drivers side cable has stretched a bit. This prohibits the drivers side latch from releasing the hood latch. There is a second cable for the passenger side that is fine, and that side releases well.

After the passenger side releases, the driver side will pop on the second pull of the cable. We think if we can insert some upward pressure with a spring or rubber, this side will release fine. ScottishBrick advises he uses a boat shoe. I am thinking of fabricating a 2 inch rubber hose and placing strategically for upward pressure on a the hood.

If I'm understanding your concept correctly, it'd probably easier to get 850 hood latches which already have an arm with a little rubber bumper on them.

Venetian Red 2000 V70R AWD Being Brought Back!

New stitched Alcantera skins are on. Still need some dye and conditioning in a few spots, but liking the new look and feel!

With the current cold, I appreciate that both seat heaters are also now functional, with a new pad on the drivers side.

Love the new alcantara with the contrasting stitching - reminds me of an Aston Martin!

      Thanks!

I'm not quite sure. The leather guy said the seats were charcoal, not black, and he did not have the right dye. He is quite the perfectionist.

I was thinking of trying in an inconspicuous area

      Black magic marker, or
      Liquid black shoe polish
And see what it looks like.

I also may just do a heavy application of zymol or opticoat leather conditioner. That may just bring them back enough. Need to be warmer for that to happen though. -6 degrees here this am!

      Thoughts?

I'd ask your leather guy where you might be able to find the right dye.

I've actually done both the shoe polish and magic marker solutions on my late S60R that had the nordkap interior. These solutions work fine IMHO in very small areas but in your case I would recommend doing a more professional job with the correct dye. There have been several threads over the years over in the P2R forum and at some point I will have to do the gobi seats on my R. Included in those threads are vendor names where you can probably source the dye. The charcoal shouldn't be that hard to track down. Like most things I would imagine there is a trick to it, like not putting the stuff on too heavy, etc., etc. Love the work you're doing to this car - Venetian one of my favorite colors.

      I've dyed seats, done upholstery work, shaved/cleaned/restored atacama and tried several products. On my p80 charcoal v70r seats I've used;

With good results. I follow both with a leather conditioner. On my daughters s60r Nordkap seats this worked very well

I've also had success dying leather from tan to black for my 242 using this

There are a lot of products available and when it comes to buying you can mix dyes to get whatever color shade you want. I've been pleased with the scuff cover as a first choice for covering crack marks. Use the applicator and wipe immediately with a dry paper towel to blend it. Then apply conditioner.

I like the look of your seats with the extra foam layer; did they add to the base and back or just the bolsters? Your build is very nice of that classy Venetian!

Thanks for the tips. I will check them out.

I asked my guy to add some high density foam to the base and backs. It seems to have added some strength and firmness to the seats I desired.

Hmmm......"hear and feel a solid door slam"........is someone trying to send a secret message that they're tired of you telling them not to slam the doors?

JK....mostly. Interested to hear how this stuff performs since I've not heard of this brand before.

So, Phase two of mechanical upgrades are starting today. This includes:

New catalytic converter. Easton unit will give me Three year parts and labor warranty with the shop I am using, 50 state Legal, and no CEL codes.

      Diagnosing a small evap leak.
      Replacing hood release cable.
Replacing leaking power steering pump and pully, and flushing power steering fluid.
Transmission flush and fill with synthetic.
      Replace leaking oil cooler seal.
Replace instrument cluster lights with IPD kit.
Replace PVC system banjo bolt with 2016 upgrade. Much easier to do while the power steering pump is off. Rest of the PVC system was done not long ago, but no evidence of the bolt being changed out.

This work should bring the car to a state with no fluid leaks, and no mechanical issues. It's been an expensive proposition to bring it back this far, but am glad to be doing it right.

Attached are a few pics after the snow. Dents removed, repainted bumpers, new jewels, new fog lights. Enjoying this daily driver.

At the rate you are going, you're going to decide it's too nice to be a DD pretty soon! Then you'll have to start shopping for a "shiit70" like so many other people on here have been doing recently lol.

Lol. Your right about that! When it snows I take out my 2016 XC90 so crazy people don't slide into the "good" car. #wifethinksimcrazy
