      S60/V70 R BREMBO Brake SWAP :: HOW TO






      What you need:
      1. Set of R Calipers, they sell on ebay between 300-600$.
      2. Brake pads, (x4) make your choice, OEM, Aftermarket, Subaru STI pads work (Front only). Rockauto.com
      3. Rotors (x4) Rock Auto
      4. Mounting bolts M12x30mm Hardware store, use only Grade 10.9 Bolts.
      5. Brass sleeve 1mm thick and 14mm diameter. This goes in the hub where the M14 bolt went for the stock caliper. New one uses M12 bolt so you need something to fill in that 1mm gap.


      OEM XC90.
      FR: 336mm Rotors
      M14X35mm mounting bolts.
      RR: 305mm Rotors
      M10x30mm bolts.


      S60/V70 R Brakes
      FR: 330mm Rotors
      M12x55mm You will need 30mm since the steering stops will not be needed.
      RR: 330mm Rotors
      M10X30 Reuse the stock XC90 bolts.

      You will need some sort of wheel spacers as the stock wheels sit way too close to the calipers and the Brembos are quite a bit larger.

      So far I installed the fronts and I'm waiting to install the rears as soon as I get the new rotors but here is how they look.

      Pull 2 pins and slide them out! I can't wait to get them painted too!! For now tho they will stay OEM!

      How's the performance? Any different?

      What's your plan for paint? Add a "V8" logo, Brembo sticker, etc?

      I will have the installed and bled by Saturday, keeping them OEM color for now but will probably paint them yellow or red with R logo for sure may consider brembo but I dig the R a lot.

      If I did this, it would be very tempting to get them color matched Passion Red to sit behind the black wheels. That would look really cool.

      Well I finished the brakes today! Stops awesome way better than before even tho I had good pads on the old brakes these just seem way better to me, there is an instant bite upon pressing the brake pedal, something I didn't have before.

      So just to update, install was pretty much remove and reinstall.

      I removed all the calipers and rotors and set them asside. The rear rotors were a little troublesome as they didnt want to slip past the pads but with some effort they came out.
      Reinstalled new rotors on all four corners.
      Installed the new calipers and transfered the OEM lines into the new ones.
      Cleaned pad area inside the rotor and lubricated.
      Installed new pads.
      Bleed the brakes.
      Check brake pedal feel...
      Bleed the brakes again as i found the second bleed removed all air from the brakes and the pedal really firmed up.
      Drove it and was immediately impressed by the difference.

      Old pads werent bad by any means nor were they bad quality, i think they were brembo pads worked great but to me the brake feel always felt a little lacking.

      With the Brembo set up you get sort of an instant brake feel and decelearation which inspires confidence since you are not working the brake pedal much however you get quick and sure response as the 5000lbs slow down.

      I would recommend this to anyone!.

      Total cost was 300$ for all calipers and 150$ in rotors and pads from Rock auto.

      This is awesome! Going on my to do soon list. As far as the brass sleeve, where did you find it? I googled 1mm brass sleeve and all it came up with was 3mm thick. Do you think these would fit behind the 19" Vulcanis rims without a spacer?

      Edit: Any specific reason you went with two different rotor types?

      I would have liked to get the same all around but the front slotted ones were sold out on Rock auto and the next cheapest alternative was the WAGNER which were 26$/pc and were coated against rust.
      As for the clearance ill dig up a template that you can cut out and use to measure the back of the wheels to show you if they will bolt up since the Brembos stick out around 60mm or so past the rotor surface. the stock ones are much smaller.

      Thanks! I'm thinking with the stock being 336 in the front, the rotors might be closer in size, and since the 336 fits behind an 18" wheel, the 19" might give the R calipers just enough room. I like the idea of spacers, I just worry about my bearings.

      Also, how did you get such a good deal on the Calipers? All I saw were $450 and up.

      I looked for about a month until a cheap set poped up that was in great condition.

      Create a search engine that will notify you every time a new set pops up.

      I searched for this. http://www.ebay.com/sch/eBay-Motors/...lipers&_sop=12 Then at the top you will see in green lettering + Follow This Search.

      They do come up once in a while for quite cheap. The set i got happened to be in perfect cosmetic shape.

      The issue is with the wheel mounting face to the outboard most surface of the caliper that is where you need the spokes to sit as far out as possible. OEM 18s will not fit.
      19s im not sure but what I have is TireRack 18x8 wheels with spokes that are curved on the back side and thats why they clear with no issues.

      If one did not want to cut and spread open the lip of the rear rotor dust shield(s), I believe the S60R PN for this is 30714066.

      For anyone interested in upgrading just the front calipers, here is a cheaper set.

      I had to do an emergency braking this morning and i was shocked of how quickly the XC came to a complete stop, it does nose dive but no different than before.

      No they don't different sizes and offsets but if you get the R rotors and Calipers they bolt right up.

      Well I used a plastic bag to wrap around the rotor then used masking tape to mask most of the stuff then sanded the caliper lightly washed it with some brake dealing fluid and then used primer and paint. As soon as the paint was tacky I took all the tape off and mounted the wheel on the car letting the paint dry. When I did the original calipers it took me about 45min to do all 4 today I ran out of day light so I will finish the rears tomorrow.
