Everyone in Europe (and anyone willing to take a short flight ) come on out to Nurburgring Sunday, 1 May 05 for a Volvo get together.

1 lap tickets of the 13 mile Norsdschleif only cost 15 Euro, but there are all sorts of other ticket options for tracking your car. You and two friends can even ride around in the M5 taxi with a professional driver etc. Ticket info:
    http://213.239.207.198/nuerbur...5&L=1

Check out the Road & Track article from June 2004:
    http://www.roadandtrack.com/ar...ber=1

Main Nurburgring website with links to hotels, directions etc:
    http://www.nurburgring.de/?rub...g=eng

Britspeed, please make sure the Spang Gang knows.
Johann, Bavaria R, JCViggen and the rest of the Swede Speed "night shift", I'd love to meet you all and check out your rides.
Military R, see if there is a ryan Air flight from spain...Frankfurt Hahn is real close. Or take a week of leave and drive

NOTE: Sponsored by KMC R-Gang does not imply that we are paying for anything or providing any services other than this announcement and our prescence.

R Kelly, you must be reading our minds up here as the Spang gang were in the process of sponsoring a Ring track day.

Unfortunately I will be in Italy that day
I hope we can do ir again on a different weekend later in May or June.

I'll let the other Spang guys know.

The Ring is a must-see for anyone on the fence.

I'm interested in a GTG on the ring later in the summer. Late june or anytime in july would be good for me.

  5. 04-10-2005 09:21 AM #5
I'm PCS'ing in July, and may have to ship the R earlier, so time is getting short.

I'm on TDY the last week of May so perhaps sometime in between, or early June?

13 Jun is my wifes birthday, I think she would love to go up to Nurburgring and watch our 2 year old so I could race around the track. I mean, an opportunity to watch your husband drive his car, I can't think of a better present !

Actually, the 5th or the 12th of Jun work great for me. Track is open to the public much longer on Sundays than saturdays.

At least one of those dates should work, as long as haven't shipped my R by then.

    Britspeed-

Checked my schedule, 29 May should work out as well, I'll be back but my family will still be on vacation.

I should have internet access while TDY, so I can still coordinate with all my guys. Let me know....

    Hey man

sounds good...i'm usually available sundays. Just lemme know when it'll all go down exactly ;-)

I've done a few laps of the Ring in my car, but to be honest it was more scary than fun for me...i prefer to ride shotgun in cars like Volflo's rather than risk my only means of transportation on the most dangerous track in the world!

    damn awesome though...its a rollercoaster

    JCviggen-

There is definitely going to be GTG on 1 May 05, Britspeed is just looking at organizing another one for early June. Hope to see you there 1 May. Will post more details as they are worked out.

I have never driven the course, so your help would be appreciated. Like is there a good place to meet up? I'll make a run up there to check it out as soon as I can drive again.

Oh ok, may 1 sounds pretty good

There's a nice little parking lot (always filled with exotics and tons of M3 (csl) and 911 (GT3) ) where you can park/meet up and the athmosphere there is always great!

Its quite easy really just follow the "zufahrt Nordschleife" sign when you get close and it'll take you right to the parking lot.

I know pretty much all of the corners so I can definately guide you a little if you want, but i never really went very fast around it. Its very tricky, especially to watch your mirrors sufficiently + drive at the same time. But its an awe-inspiring track to drive for sure!

HEY "R" Kelly, count me in. Yap, your ears were burning. I just talked with Britspeed the other day about a Ring GTG. I´ll put it on my calendar.

Although I'm not a "ring" fan and the date is a bit short lived after the turbo update, still a few bugs to sort out, I see what I can do. Always nice to meet fellow R drivers.

    The date is noted anyway!

I think we're in luck, it seems that Florian and his insane 850 wagon (even more insane than Johann's I must say - now with rollcage and custom dash) will be there that weekend sunday too

The date looks good, pretty sure I'll be able to attend as well. I'll pass the word to some more "R" owners here in Heidelberg. Sounds like allot of fun!!

Outstanding, I'm very curious now about Florian's. Sounds like Bavaria R is going to make it as well. Should have a final count from KMC R-Gang by next friday. Capitol Motors said they would advertise it as well. Should be a blast.

R, man, why can't this be two weeks later??

I pick up my R from in K-Town on 29 April. It goes in to get the windows tinted the next day and then I'm pulling the ECU to ship to Evolve on Monday the 2nd. Once the ECU gets back, the following goes on the car:

    S60R Sport Exhaust System
S60R Upper Engine Mount Bushing - Black
    S60R Anti-Sway Bars
    S60R Sport Lowering Springs
    S60R Tail Light Trim
    S60R Silicone Coolant Hoses

Looks like I'll miss this one but I'll be more than ready the next time you do this!

Bavaria R, please post what hotels you find, I will pass that on.

Oh, and I just heard that 1 May is called "Mayday" in Germany. Anyone have more info on this??? Do we need to make special arrangements???

Really looking forward to this, I started physical therapy today, working on getting motion back in my knee. It went well, it is nice to have something to tell myself I have to be ready for when it starts to hurt.

May day is Russian ?? lol

I dont know maybe they have something like that in Germany too... 1. May is definately a holiday here in Belgium too, but its no big deal...just a day off work basically

Nothing to be worried about, maybe a little more traffic than usual, cant imagine any "problems"

Ok, I heard to make sure you keep your car in garage on Mayday because the kids vandalize, go crazy etc. Of course if they want to try and put TP on my car while I'm going 130mph they are welcome to try.

On a different note, anyone know if you have to do any mods to your car to drive on the Ring? Do you have to wear a helmet? I don't think so but thought I would check. Will research website as well....

    tks,

Nope, nothing special needed to drive the Ring.

Its technically a public toll road, which means normal traffic rules apply.

You do not need a helmet, but it is recommended if you want to do some serious Ring driving. But most of the routist drivers in "normal" cars dont wear one.

Cars that make too much noise or that have temp plates arent allowed, neither is having a film camera onboard. But thats about it

Getting closer to the big day. A few of us are driving up this Sunday to scope out the place.

May have to take a lap just so I don't embarass myself on 1 May

Preliminary count is about 10 guys for GTG, going to be fun. I'll have my G-tech by then, and Richard is trying to get the exhaust shipped in time, up to the Air Force now.

"R" Kelly, I may be the only one from Spang going. The others her here that are interested are not available. The times are 0800 to 1930 for 1 May 2005. What time do you plan on meeting at the track?

I'd love to do some scoping with you guys this Sunday, but we are going to Amsterdam this week-end. If you haven't already, there is some rules for the track to follow posted on the website. It'd be good to get familiar with these before tracking. Maybe make some copies to distribute to folks.

The parking lot is small and gets crowded, so parking is a premium, so the earlier the better, to get the spots or area you want. Also, what are peoples plans for lunch? I don't remember seeing any tables but if you look at some of the dirt parking lots (turn right at the circle) there may be some.

Also, if anyone is a photographer, if you go straight through at the circle, then keep going to the end, there is a good spot for taking pics of people on the track. Many other good spots are available as witnessed by the crowds sometimes on the fence watching, but don't know how to get there. Photography of any kind is not allowed while on the track!!!!!

To get your tickets, go to building just adjacent to where cars enter the track (parking garage style gates). I have never asked, but some others here at work have discussed, they may take a VAT form, so we could save a little on the 6-lap tickets. Let us know on this.

I may not track my car as I'm still patiently waitin on Richard to send me some rotors !!!!! My OEM brakes are almost shot, so don't want to crunch it. It's been a looonng month since I ordered !!!!!!!

Just a few things to look for, see ya on 1 May !!!!!!!!!

  27. 04-22-2005 03:25 AM #27
Man. @#ite i just shipped my car because I'm pcs'ing. i would of loved to come to this. oh well hopefully ill be back in Germany in 3-4 years. take care and i hope its a great event for all of you guys.

R Kelly I'd love to go...but am away from home (Spain)

Darn the luck, but please take lots of photos and some lap times. Just which part of the "Ring" will be tracked...how many miles per lap. Thanks and enjoy. I'm so jealous of you guys maybe I can work on a GTG at Jerez Intl Speedway ( Circuito de Jerez) this summer (or fall for better temps and Humidity lol). Spainards are a little more uptight about thier track. If I was home I would definitely use some of my 92.5 days of leave and drive up there. I was just looking for an excuse to get up there.

    Jesse-

Sorry to hear that, tell Britspeed he has to plan the next one early Jun then. I figure we will get there around 1000, hopefully that isn't too late. Time for everyone to meet up, then grab some lunch, and then out to track for rest of the day. I'll see what the crowds are like this sunday, should let me know if this is a good plan. I figured there would be concessions type places where we could eat...will find out on the scouting expedition.

I'm a photo nut, plan on taking lots of pics. There should be a number of people to ride along with, more than welcome to ride with me. Richard is trying to express mail my exhaust so I can have it on by 1 May. My G-tech will be here in couple of days (thanks again Jim) so we should have lots of fun with that.

I ordered the WG special from Richard, but don't know how many people were in the queue in front of me. My brakes only have 7700 miles on them, so I plan on wearing them out

Thanks for all the info...tell the other spang guys if I get my Svenske exhaust (DP already on), they have to come out so we can compare it to Ferrita. With jus the DP I can already tell a difference.

Don't know if anyone is intersted, but I was at the Homburg dealership this weekend and picked up the lates Volvo Mag. In it described what I think was Advanced Driving classes at Nurburgring in May, June, and July. Anyone intersted?

The cost was something like 2-300 euro, and don't know enough german to tell what all was included.

At any rate...anyone up for it as a summer meeting?

DETAILS FOR THE 1 MAY GTG:

For those of us coming from Ramstein area, we will meet up at the Burger King at 0830. Please park along street for a group pic (Doug, if you could play nice and line up with the rest of us this time )

Should allow time for a quick bite to eat if you want, and then we will be on the road by 0900. Only takes an hour to get there A62-A1-A48-B259/257/258 Follow the signs to Nurburgring. If you need to buy tickets, you can also get them at the Grand Prix / tourist info parking area - buying them at Nordschleife entrance area can be difficult, hard to find a place to park amongst all the Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Loti, Porsches....

Tourist info where you can buy tickets, reccomend the 6 trip for 80 Euro, can be used on future dates.

Nordschleiffe entrance is 1.5 km further up the road past Grand Prix entrance, look for Nordschleiffe signs, exit to the right, go under the road.

Regardless, would like everyone to meet up on grassy area which is off round-about exit directly across from Nordschleiffe entrance around 1030.

From there we can line everyone up and go take over the ring

    Other notes:

for those of you savvy enough to buy the nav, the track displays on your nav system. On straight-aways, quick glance gives you great heads up to upcoming turn patterns.

after you enter track, just past cones that force you to the left, you can line up on the right if you want to have a "group start". This is a great place to reset your "average speed" on your trip computer right before you floor it, easy way to track your improvement over the day.

to the side of the Nordschleiffe entrance is the BMW "Gazebo" where you can reserve rides in the Ring Taxi. cost is 175 Euro for the car, so split that 3 ways. 58 Euro to ride the ring with the best ring drivers in the world in a 500hp M5, I need two other people who are interested

Hey Spang guys, we heard that you can use a VAT form for purchasing your passes, but no one would take them--is that bad gouge???

Have to say, yesterday was the most fun I've had in Germany. Looking forward to seeing all of you again, or for the very first time.

There is a restaurant there where we can eat, or there is a pizzeria couple of clicks away in Adenau. A number of restaurants are listed in Nurburg as well in the Nav system.

Could not use VAT form at either the on-site or tourist information. Think we are SOL.

    See you Sunday!

Well just to confirm, I just made final plans with someone who's coming with me (to split the fuel cost lol) and I think I ought to arrive around 11 AM-ish at the Ring on sunday. Depending on traffic and how fast I feel like going

Looking forward to it. The meanest 850 in germany might not make it though, last i heard he had problems with the diff in his M59 but I dont know how bad they are
