Thread: Our XC90 is Home!

    Hi folks,

We had a great FDC experience last Friday, despite having lots of rain. The FDC folks were very helpful and took care of all of our concerns, to include having the workshop change out our front passenger door because of a run in the paint! We've got over 500 miles on it and are quite happy with it.

We spent Friday night in Kungälv at the Fars Hatt hotel. I can't recommend that place enough, the folks, the food and the location were outstanding. My wife and I walked around the Bohus Fastning after dinner and then visited it the next morning. It's a very interesting fortress ruin (and it's 15-30 min from the FDC!) and well worth a visit. From Kungälv we drove up to Marstrand Island to check out the Carlsten Fastning. It was really impressive as well, but we liked the rusticness of the Bohus ruin. Marstrand was about an hour drive to the ferry terminal in Göteborg where we boarded the Stena line for Kiel, Germany.

For those of you on the fence regarding FDC pickup, get off the fence and do it, you won't regret the experience!

Oh, here are a few pics of our adventure. Enjoy!

Here's a shot of the pond within the fortress' walls.

Here's the Carlsten Fastning on the Island of Marstrand, as seen from the ferry you have to use to get to it.

Here's the view from the top of the Carlsten Fastning!

All in all, it was a fantastic trip and we HIGHLY recommend it!

    Russ,

Fantastic photos!!! Thanks for sharing them with us! Glad you had a good time and YES....the OSD experience is without a doubt, the "best bang for the buck" that Volvo offers! Those of us that are OSD mgrs. at Volvo dealerships in the US appreciate the endorsement. Enjoy your new V8.

Cool pics. My wife and I went to the Bohus castle when we were there in 2003 but when we went, it was closed because the "touristy" spots usually close end of Sept and we went end of Oct. Oh well, still got to see the outside. Pretty cool.

Man, that's a shame. The inside was really cool. My wife and I crawled all over it for about 2.5 hours and then headed up to Marstraand. We really liked the fact that we had access to just about the entire site. Lot's of cool stuff to see and touch. I think the really cool thing was knowing you were in the same barracks room the fortress defenders used hundreds of years ago!

When we go over again for OSD next month, we are staying at a castle in Germany off of the Weser River for the night. I think that will be pretty cool. We plan on seeing other castles as well but thought it would be different staying in one.

Sounds good. Are you guys staying in northern Germany or are you going to head south?

We are staying one night in Berlin, than Hannover, than the castle, and finally ending in Hamburg. Lots of driving. I am figuring about 1200 miles total (from Gotenburg to Trelleborg. Than hop on a ferry to Sassnitz. Then to Berlin and so on).

Wow, you are going to experience quite the cross section of Germany! I have't made it to Berlin yet, but from talking to folks who have, you can still tell the difference between what was East and West.

    Good luck and have fun!
