Thanks, 'claw. Vehicle has a CEL: P2402, which as I understand it was subject to a Volvo campaign to recalibrate a sensor's input to the ECU electronically. Any information on whether the VIN above qualifies?

Very interested in the Ocean Race and trying to get as much info as possible before making a 3 hour drive to see it in person. Talked to the dealer and the car has a message on the computer - the car's internal screen, not a code scanner - that says "service required parking assist" or something to that efffect. Is this something to be concerned about? Expensive?

Also, in researching the VIN, I found the car was for sale at East Side Subaru and was then apparently wholesaled to this used car dealer. On several occasions new car dealers have told me they wholesale out a trade-in, even a really clean car, because they've found a major issue with the engine or trans or something. Should this be a concern?

Lastly, the service records go dark from 85K to current 116K miles. Assuming the timing belt needs to be done any idea on what that service might cost?

Any other thoughts on this car?

      Thanks for the help!

That is a good price for a low mile one owner car. Just need to verify the actual miles and get a set of Titans (or Volans) on there and you're all set!

I don't think the parking sensor thing is a big deal. Check out the P2R forum for some recent discussion. The '06 like this may have the dreaded valve body issue. Much has been written on this topic. Timing belt and water pump service is in the $800-$1,200 range depending on where you live.

check out the seats....driver's seat looks like it has a tear in the skin, passenger seat, um, what is that stick all about??? Also paint on the wing is shot, paint overall looks like it was polished with steel wool, but, hey, original mats and bumper. That's good.

Still could be a reasonable price, though. I'm probably sounding overly harsh on this car. So many of the black T-5R sedans were bought up by the tuner/VS crowd and really destroyed with ridiculous mods that a clean one like this is really quite rare. I'd bet there are maybe 50-75 left that have't been totally trashed out.

That Ocean Race is that cat's meow. I wouldn't worry much about the park assist issue. It's most likely a sensor that has gone bad. Get it hooked up to Vida and it will tell you.

Main thing to worry about with the miles it has would be the timing belt, PCV, suspension components, and if any transmission fluid changes were performed. The Oil change history according to the carfax was kept up so there is less worry about the PCV.

These XC's came with the AW55 transmission so the issue pertaining to '06 mentioned above is basically irrelevant. That valve body issue mainly affected the TF80-SC found in '06 and part of '07 V70Rs. Though if the fluid has never been changes, the valve body still could have issues.

I'd be all over it if it were on my coast.

XCs have a 5 speed, usually not a problem
As for the park sensors, the (*#&$(#*$&#*() I went thru installing a system took me over 2 months to get it working but this one being there should ba a lot less of a hassle. In the end, the issue was almost laughable if anyone really knew these systems and VIDA was helpful, it's not!
If VIDA shows it to be the controller, you can buy a used one for peanuts and it's a 5 minute install.
If it's an actual sensor, a sensor costs about 50-60 bucks new but it's a bit of a PIA to install. Couple of hours.

If you buy the O/Race and you need a park controller, I have one for sale

+Eleventy-million. Looks like the proverbial Puff de la Creme.
Wow... Everett, huh? Nice and local, unsalted. Maybe work a timing belt/water pump service at a discount as part of the deal. Worth a try. Probably not much cushion in that price.
I wouldn't let the auction thing put you off. Dealers have all kinds of reasons for auctioning a car: it doesn't "fit" their lot, it's over 100K miles, some are landlocked and simply don't like having anything of a different brand hanging around. I've bought some nice cars that have been through auctions.

Go for it! Vanquish the Credit King!!!

As others have said, I wouldn't worry about it being through an auction. If you consider that it was a Subaru dealer who took it in trade, that's far from their specialty. It was probably the only Volvo on their lot. They likely offered less on trade than they knew they could make wholesale with the intention of it going there all along. If you're interested, give it a go! I'd love to hear someone bought something I found!

Thanks for all of the feedback and encouragement, really helpful!!! I've always liked the OR version, even if its special features are simply eye candy. Something about that blue with aluminum trim...

The dealer is very supportive of having a mechanical inspection done, but I can't get it done until Monday, so that leaves the car unprotected from weekend shoppers Ugh...why does it have to be 3 hours away.

      We'll see what develops.

My apologies if this car's already hashed-bashed-boomed-in-the-trash, don't really ogle over R's much, 'specially the 60's, but thought others might like this Sarasota 2004 S60R MT Black/Atacama w/ 69Kmiles. Come to think of it as I'm typing, I think I've seen this CL ad before ... sort of remember the boat in the background, but then again boats are common in these here parts. Might be a re-up as the listing is only 3 hours old.

Damnit! I need an xc90! Why can't there be one closer to dc that hasn't been monkey-hammered?

check out the seats....driver's seat looks like it has a tear in the skin, passenger seat, um, what is that stick all about??? Also paint on the wing is shot, paint overall looks like it was polished with steel wool, but, hey, original mats and bumper.
Seriously. Plus what did they do to that dash? A t5r would be great, but to get this one nice I'm guessing you'll have to touch everything.

Dash pad failure. Pretty typical. Well, maybe seeing one that bad isn't typical, but it's not an uncommon problem.
