Power Steering Pump options on 2005 V8

      Power Steering Pump options on 2005 V8

      My pump is starting to whine and lose fluid, so I'm looking to replace it this weekend.
      I'm finding conflicting reports about which pumps fit.
      Some places say the 2.5 and V8 will fit the same pump; others say not.

      Any help appreciated before I pull the trigger on a pump that doesn't fit.

      Make sure it's not just the hose.

      No, it's the pump w/ pulley. But I'm concerned about fitment. I need help clarifying this.

      The V8 pump p/n is 36000748.
      It's only listed to fit the V8 XC90s.

      The V8 PS pump is made by Denso (vs ZF for the 5 and 6 cylinder vehicles) and I have yet to find a suitable lower cost reliable alternative in this space. The PN referenced seems quite specialized to this vehicle application. I don't have any issues currently with my PS pump but it seems inevitable so I'm looking to find any and all options to OE. So far nothing, but I continue to search...

      While you have the intake off, ought to do a quick check of the valve cover gaskets, see if any are leaking. Way common at >100k, especially the back bank. And 100k is also a good time for a serp (aux) belt replacement with new idlers and tensioner.

      If for some odd reason you might consider doing VC gaskets (since you're about 1/2 way there anyway) plus PCV plus FPS, a good read on the job is here: http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...et-Replacement.

      My valve cover gaskets seemed fine when I had the intake manifold off a few weeks ago. Although I'm replacing that upper PCV hose and will be doing the serp. belt, too, as a precautionary.

      I also have some heat shield rattles that make themselves present around 2k rpm. I'll address all this Monday.

      If not too late, might consider PCV as well, to match the life of the hose. Gets hot in there.
