      Kinugawa hybrid wheel

Looking to have a 7+7 hybrid wheel installed in my K24. Anybody have any experience with Kinugawa Billet Turbo Upgrade Compressor Wheel VOLVO KKK K16 K24 (54.6/71mm) GT3071R 7+7. I can get it for $115.00 of the eBay.

Is this the same wheel everybody is selling for $185 to $200?

Dimensions appear to be the same, although I don't know about the material used or manufacturing tolerances.

It's coming all the way from Taiwan... if it's sloppy to start, it would really get jacked up in shipping that far.

      Just get from Viva

Well, if you are sending it in for a rebuild, the rebuild facility will test and balance it I guess. May be worth a try.

Viva has their wheels on sale, so why would you risk it from an unknown? http://www.vivaperformance.com/turbo...els-s60r-v70r/

      Taiwan is not China...

Anyways, if the metal used is good (sorta hard to f up aluminum), then there should be no problem with it. Not sure what could go wrong if it's balanced properly by a good rebuilder. But at least with viva, you get some peace of mind. I guess it could be hit or miss, like with the obx dps.

another note would be, who developed it? Did this ebay company just buy a wheel and then copy it? If you don't support the people/companies that develop parts for the R, they will stop developing for the R....

True, but billet wheels have been around forever. Did viva develop their wheel, or merely asked a supplier to make some for them to sell? Who knows.

I probably wouldn't buy the ebay one, but it may be an option for someone on a tight budget and willing to take the risk.

Looks like Kinugawa is the aftermarket parts branch of Kamak turbos, who are an OEM supplier for, among others, Subaru. Pleasantly surprised, not cheap knockoff crap; I'd certainly be willing to risk it over, say, a brandless ebay/aliexpress wheel.

Kinugawa is a huge supplier of tons of aftermarket turbos, they are legit. I wouldn't use anyone else IMO.

where do you guess the stateside suppliers get their hybrid wheels?

I'm using one of the Kinugawa wheels for more than a year and logging about 1500kg/h of maf readings thanks to it.

For people wondering what the result looks like

Was to lazy to remove the plastic but the difference should be clear.

Left an original K24 7401, on the right a K24 7401 with a Hybrid Viva 7+7 compressor wheel

Who are you looking at for your rebuild? I'm starting to look around for a reputable shop.

Tim's Turbos is local to me, so I'm going to stop by there for a full price quote. Otherwise, I've heard that Turbolab, g-pop shop, and Pure Turbos are all good.

Keep us updated. There isn't a single thread on this forum about getting a turbo to hybrid locally. So I'm curious about the costs and completion time.

Why are people doing 7+7 instead of the 11 blade?

Last time I made a thread about this I never got a clear answer as to what the differences/advantages/disadvantages are.

Is the Viva hybrid turbo a 7+7 or 11?

What I was told is that the 7+7 has a slightly lower powerband while the 11 is slightly higher. I'm okay with sacrificing a few hp up top for more midrange, which is why I went with the 7+7.

Viva's hybrid shows the 7+7 wheel, but I believe viva's hybrid can be ordered with either wheel.
