on foot across the parking lot so I coud get these pics before he took off on the ring.

Short video of SLR in staging area:

Not sure what this was, but you could fit a Smart Car transverse between its front wheels. Said it was a Pinanfarina on the side, sounds Italian

This is BMW Z1. Guy removed the doors for weight savings evidently...

This brought back memories of "Hardcastle & McCormick"

biggest discs I've ever seen... obviously BMW doesn't know that drilling rotors leads to fatal nose warts in flightless waterfowl

Not a fan of black rims, but they work on this car.

Ok, this Cayenne Turbo S is the best candidate for lowering springs I've ever seen.

Hope you enjoyed the latest iteration of "Random Car Sightings" at Nurburging.

I know, Pinanfarina was the designer .

Although the rip-off my "Prancing Moose" sticker was upsetting, who does Ferrari think they are?

There was a guy with an Ultima GTR at Watkins Glen when we were there too, he ran in the Open Track group.

I love the fact that the thing is street legal - he had NJ plates on.

The BMW Z1 did NOT remove his doors, that's how they open!

They sink into the side of the car. To close them, they rise up. Strange.

... and the irony is that for <1/10 the cost of the SLR any of those bikes will likely outperform it with 10x the adrenaline rush.

Is that really a Civic in front of it in the staging area?

    Buuuuuuhhhh BYYYYYYYeeeeee....!

from the other pics I have seen, there were a bunch of civics there that day.

Personally, I think the car is beautiful (design-wise). Lets take a poll.

Hah, I photographed that very car on my first trip to the Ring in July '04

Oh and a BMW Z1 has doors that sink into the side in case no-one noticed

Jan, Kurt - Just like I knew the "Pinanfarina" was really a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, I knew the doors sunk down in on the Z1. But thank you for pointing that out, my attempts at self-deprecating humor have failed yet again.
