Thanks Jesse, looking forward to probably the last R Gang Nurburgring day this year.See everyone there!

"R" Kelly is tired of announcing these. So, I will![]()
Looks like it will be another double GTG, the 9th for us hardcore US guys and for the Belgium/Dutch/German bloaks the 16th as well. This will give some of us two chances to get some favorable weather conditions. Of course anyone is welcome at either or both GTGer's.
This early announcement will give everyone plenty of time to plan for it. WRXownr and KVB hope you can make it, it is a three day week-end for us US bloaks. Dennis (SuperGas) and Bavaria R hope you can make it also. I know we can depend on our Belgium and Dutch guys too. Anyone else with or without a Volvo are also welcome.
Their are fewer and fewer full days available as winter is fast approaching. The only full days left are Sundays, and not all of them.
See Schedule here: http://www.nuerburgring.de/ind...th=10
9 Oct 05 they are open from 0830 to 1930. The earlier the better, as it is less crowded on the track plus cooler temps which the "R" loves. I will plan to be there by 0830 and get a couple of quality laps in before lunch.
16 Oct is open from 0900 to 1800.
"R" Kelly, you round up the K-town guys. Everyone else chime in if you plan on coming out.

Plenty of time for all you US folks to get a plane ticket, rent a beamer, get a hotel room at the ring, and join us for an unforgettable week-end. I'm sure an "R" driver can take you around. Think about it, could be your best week-end vacation ever

I'll be going the 16th when Johann's going...with fuel prices what they are that means the 9th is out![]()
Hey, what's the skinny on cam recorders. I bought a pretty little tri-pod for the back seat but now I see the ban. Doesn't seem to be a forcable rule with the flood of shots from you guys.Occording to the punishment, I could have my season pass revoked
woo-peee. Do these get tucked away until the first turn? Why is it a ban?

Yap, a guy stands at the entrance (like a parking garage entrance where you insert your ticket with a gate) about 75% of the time. He looks in everyone's car to see that they are following the rules, i.e. seat belts, motorcycles have helmets and full leather, proper tags on car (hopefully the red temp tags are OK), and yes no visible cameras. They once thought my G-tech on the dash was a camera, now they don't bother me. If they see a camera they make you put it in the trunk.I think they don't want us amateurs glamorizing our runs on the internet (like some here have) and possibly making a profit or catching something gory like a bad wreck. You do see pro teams with cameras which makes me wonder about the rule.
Just keep it hidden till you get going. They don't like you stopping once on the track, but we do stop at the beginning sometimes to let all the "R's" get through the gate. Sometimes the yellow safety truck will roll by us stopped and glare!!!! With your tripod and being alone it might be tricky to get setup, especially if it needs strapped down like it (and everything else) should be.
?? When do you guys leave for your OSD trip???
I'll have someone going on the trip with me. I do a little racing here and there when I get the chance, so I have my helmet that I'm bring with me, but my passenger is SOL. I think he'll still go thru the course and I'll use him as a human tri pod.
I hope the Red Plates are go to go. Are red plates typically known as tempuary plates though out Europe? I filled a swidish regerstration when apply for the plates. Crap'o I hope the plates are gtg, the site says "- Vehicles with transfer or limited-time number plates are not allowed to drive on the Nürburgring." I think I might fall under this catagory. I might have to bum a ride in one of the S60 R taxis.Any word or help to get hopes back up is needed.
I leave Tuesday for the airport and have a Sept 29th pick up. I think Smak is already in Europe and picking up his car today.
I really hope I can get that car onto the track...let me know the word.Bryan

ahhhh....it's amazing the speed my brain goes under stress at the age of 33. This post popped into my head from a while back. It's found here http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=43069 , but requote it for you.
Quote, originally posted by V50T5OSD » The Nurburgring is a must! Open most days from 5:30-7:30pm, times change so check the web site, get there earlier to see the prototypes testing, most are covered but I saw a new Audi Q7 being tested as well as a new MB, Jaguar. One lap costs 15 euros/ $20, 5 laps 60 euros/$80 each lap is 14.8mi with 70 turns, many blind and elevation change of 900'. I track a car in the US and felt confident I could handle 5 laps, only made 4 and on lap 2 ran off the track, no damage. My Mother was with me, took Video on the first lap (they don't approve of video equipment, hide the camera until you are out on the track some distance and put it away before coming back in the pit, means passenger will have to go along)It's her car. I drove a distance to the track, would recommend coming day before, get a room and rest, see the sights around the ring, watch the testing, then drive the track rested ,it will beat the h**l out of you! Also empty the car so you won't get distracted by suitcases moving around or junk in the cabin rolling under your seat, brakes will get a workout as will the engine, you have to stop after each lap and re-insert your ticket so take a few minutes to cool down and check the car/tires, don't want to get stuck at the track and ruin your trip waiting for repairs. Sounds like someone already put an OSD car thru the ring. May be at the 25% point when the man wasn't there. hehe. Let me know what you think tho.

I've also seen many cars with temp plates go onto the 'ring...technically its not allowed but so far I havent seen anybody stopped because of the plates...I think it should be all right
Looks like a lot of gloomy rainy days ahead in the forecast.Everyone do a "sun (or no rain) dance" (opposite of "rain dance"), what ever that is
![]()
After looking at the 10-day forecast, looks like a cloudy day on Sun the 9th, how ever reliable that is. Hopefully the closer we get it will become a reality. Any body know how to schedule good weather ???? Besides praying !!!!!!
Johann, gonna bring the new S over for a spin?
Bavaria R, did your plans change so you could make the 9th?
Guys in England, will you be coming over?
Anyone else, chime in
![]()
Niet, unfortunately no change, still investigating for the 15 / 16 oct.![]()
Unfortunately the 15th is not open to the public and the 16th is open from 0900 to 1800. Who knows, I might sneak over on the 16th also. Shush, don't tell anybody.
16th for me too guys...we'll have to get lucky with weather this time of year
I can't promise anything, but I'll do my best to join you guys/gals...![]()

Else the S must make it's ring debut
![]()
New car Johann? Looks great. I passed a red R that looked like the one in your pic last week. He wasn't interested in racing a few street lights/too bad.Have fun next weekend.
I'm trying to organize a Colorado GTG, but not a huge response yet.

Dont forget you have 2 "S"-es now
I think both would be a lot of fun, but the white one would be a new experience!
Quote, originally posted by JCviggen » Dont forget you have 2 "S"-es now
True.. Not yet though. end of next week I think.
blah, blah, blah, it's raining and I can't my car wet. LOL. Me and Smak on our way. We were at Oktoberfest over the weekend and departed today. Smak was gonna to try his luck at the BMW training course in Munich today before heading out. I was hoping to see at least one modded R so I can ask some questions since I'm a visual person. I was hoping to see Kelly since it looks like he has the most stuff. Now I just hope it clears up so someone will make it out. Rain or shine, we'll be there on the 9th.Bryan

KillerB, Super, so I assume your new "R's" are doing well. Will they be broken in (~1000 miles) when you arrive? There are probably 10 to 12 of us with V70R's and S60R's and virtually all of us have done some mods. We could see this many "R's" at the GTG not including the two of you.
Hopefully it will be a real good turnout. The 9th will be mostly US, and the 16th has turned into a mostly Euro spec day. Some of US guys will even come out for both.
Hopefully at least the time we go on the track it will be dry. We do need rain to keep the grass green though.
ya, it's pretty awesome. It's real hard to keep it under 4k tho...keep shifting around 5k.Smaks car was around 1900 miles on it when I left him. I have 300 on it and I make the trek down to Amsterdam from Copenhagen...9 hour drive should get me the miles I need. If not...I have the trip from Amsterdam to Paris and then over to the ring...so I should have my miles up.

It's not the rain that bothers me in Europe...it's all these dam people on bikes the keep getting my way. LOL

Whoo Hoo,Finally got a favorible weather forecast!!!
![]()
http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/GMXX2527.html
Sunday: Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the mid 40s.
If you were waffling before, start cleaning the car, it's gonna be a beautiful day at the Nurburgring
![]()
BUMP![]()
The forecast couldn't be any better. Perfect temps for the R.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 63F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph

Cool!!Wish you guys a lot of fun! See if you can crack 9 minutes..
![]()
If all conditions were perfect, I know I could crack 9 minutes. But only, if I didn't need to slow down to pass other cars, and I didn't need to slow down and yield to faster cars and motorcycles. This is why it is important to be at the track as soon as it opens at 0830.
Unfortunately, I will not be driving on the track Sunday. I will go though and hang out (till after lunch), and maybe bum a ride. My wife is a basket case when I go to the ring, so my compromise this time is to go but not drive my car on the track.
![]()
Does anyone else get flak from the "other half" when going to the ring. I wish their was some way to convince them that we know what we are doing and just "chill". Maybe organize a family "R" GTG with a nice leisure drive and a picnic or barbecue
