Thread: Feature: Jeremy Chapman's Atypical 855

  1. 09-27-2005 08:38 AM #1

The Volvo aftermarket is still in its infancy relatively. In Volvo tuning, one often sees the same modifications and wide use of newer factory parts to differentiate these cars from the masses. That said Volvo has been providing the foundation for tuning enthusiasts all over the world. Forced induction and motorsports have helped to ignite the interest in these often overlooked cars, inspiring Jeremy Chapman to take the road less traveled in the buildup of his 850.

I agree it's a great article and HOT car!! Only change I would make is to remove the MB-Star from the rims; if no Volvo center cap can fit, I would leave it "blank" or have something custom made. Hey after all he did tho the ride, this should be minor

    Thanks Gregg.

Jarmo, I still like factory parts and your old car looks like a factory 855R almost. Wow! You should have painted the rear hatch handle to fool everyone.

    I like the wagon.
I'm not sure about that front air dam, it seems a bit too big for the rest of the car

  7. 09-27-2005 05:43 PM #7
Really? The depth is almost identical to the factory side skirts.

  8. 09-27-2005 07:12 PM #8
Schweder, personally I love the car. It's nice to see the 850 envelope being pushed. It may not be traditional, but who cares. There are plenty of traditional and beautiful 850s out there waving that flag.

Plus, that headlight modificaiton is subtle. Your work looks factory.

I really like this wagon. Just like the VW's in Vancouver and Seattle its Euro to the fullest. I like the Merc theme.

    I agree

this is a horrible horrible car

Thanks George. I have actually changed the lights a little since this shoot to accommodate jewel corner lights. Forgive the photo quality compared to Sam:

I also tapped the 1990's modification bin and added headlight-matched city lights:

I have to admit, I'm of a similar opinion.

The grille, ugh. The "Elegance" badges, ugh

    It's a Volvo, not a Mercedes

There are a few other threads of peoples cars on here.. maybe you can post pics of your old car there too.

You guys are crazy. Would you rather it look like this?

Jeremys car is as original as it gets. He single handedly started the projector retrofit and chin spoiler craze on volvospeed and is constantly doing writeups on cheap and awesome DIY projects. This one man with this one car has helped push the volvo tuning scene in the US up several nothces. You're all intitled to your own opinions, but show the man some respect for what he has done or at least just recognize what this car has done for the aftermarket volvo scene.

Who said it was stock? Only missed the switch for the moonroof. btw in this photo you can see what kind of upholstery my 855 had before.

And it aren't the 17" Titan wheels but the 17"Satellite of the R YM2000

I even had the 17" brakekit from the Sportline later, only got 1 photo of that while I was installing them (but can't find it at moment).

And this is how she looked with the stock wheels but already with the R-frontwing

Looks great. Thanks again for sharing your car man. It's making me want to pick up an 850 wagon.

Yeah, the 850 has also some weak spot in my heart...even too I already owned that one from 1996 till 2002 and did some 175000km and now enjoy a S60R....I know someday I will have a T-Gül (T5-R) 854 or a red 854R, just to have and ride on sunny Sundays.
(But no Estate's for me anymore in the future, never liked the handling of my 855 compared to a stock 854 back then and I prefer sedan or coupe anyway/anyday).

You are just full of negativity. Why again did Volvo campaign an 855 instead of an 854 in BTCC before aerodynamic modifications/wings were allowed?

Ya but no offense, its not even close to being unique or intresting though. Keep in mind, this is something I consider my T5R not to be either, though I have alot more mods than you.

Can anybody tell me what the enblem is on the upper portion of the tailgate on the left side?

  24. 09-28-2005 10:20 PM #24
the emblem is "855", going with the Mercedes location of their emblems

  25. 09-29-2005 02:25 AM #25
I believe that was covered in my write-up, but the text is a little verbose and somewhat daunting. I work in an IT solutions guidance group, so I can get wordy.

Anyway, the "8" is from a Mercedes V8 Gelaendewagen and the "55" is AMG lettering from an E55 among other "x55" derivations. Both were sourced on ebay for <$20 each.

  26. 09-29-2005 05:43 PM #26
i love this car, it's unique. and it pisses some people off. to me that makes a great custom. i'm sure the grille i have in mind for mine will ruffle a feather or two

  27. 09-29-2005 07:12 PM #27
There was a SS member who was doing some MAJOR mods to his 95 854 a few years ago; it was going to be a show car. At the time he was going with a BMW 3series theme, I think; I know he was in dental school in NJ, but I haven't "seen" him around recently. Anyone recall his screen name and care to do a search for his photos and comments?!?! If his car is finished, i'm sure it's a very UNIQUE Volvo.

  28. 09-29-2005 11:20 PM #28
eff the haters. your wagon is sick and original. I understand your mk2 was pretty hot as well. Porsche items on mk2s and mk3s are the big thing now. Way to start the trend. Hopefully other volvo guys will catch the hint.

  29. 09-29-2005 11:52 PM #29
Yes, his car is amazing. I believe his user name is "4U2NV" or something similar and old school-ish

I couldn't agree more...I can appreciate all the work he did but the end result is ridiculous...as I said in another thread, this is the mother of all lucky bastard 850 wagons...

One would think that a Volvo owner may have a Mercedes complex.

    Yannis

2001 Volvo V70 T5 M SR, Classic Red/Graphite L, TME Stage II ECU, 3" Downpipe w/ Cat-back exhaust from MTE, Volvo Roadholding & Lowering Kit w/ Nivomats, 17" PEGASUS, Rear Spoiler, Dolby Surround Sound
Current company car: 2011 Volvo C70 T5, Electric Silver/ Black Sovereign Hide, Climate, Multimedia & Dynamic packages

I was awaiting your response, Yannis. I'm surprised you waited this long to make your opinion public.

My compliments to a very clean unmodified car. Looks good.

    Mercedes + Volvo = bastardation?

What does Volvo + Ford = then?

  33. 09-30-2005 01:23 AM #33
All of you haters are a bunch of idiots!!
Jeremy has thought outside of the box and dared to be original, pushing the volvo tuning scene to the next level!

It's no wonder people come over to VS and never come back here.
Even the mods are close minded fools

  34. 09-30-2005 01:36 AM #34
Agreed. Jeremy's car also looks 10x better in person compared to the pictures, everything he has done to it looks COMPLETELY factory, and I mean EVERYTHING.

  35. 09-30-2005 02:20 AM #35
this is a one of a kind car/ if you dig it, then you can appreciate uniqueness. awesome.

if you can't dig it, then you most likely drive one more car that looks like everyone else's. that makes his that much better.

    for breaking the norm.
