The problem is, a least with the side view, that it looks like 20 other cars out there already.

It's evolutionary by design. I think it works, to me the side of it looks more like the s60 than the current generation s80. Interesting that the current s40 has a similar greenhouse to the current outgoing s80.
Inside looks nice, but I'd like to see another color than beige, grey, or black. Wood looks like matte, I'd like to see it without the wood and I'm interested in seeing the dash. Hopefully it is not too understated, it may seem spartan to some potential customers.
Maybe the next s60 will be a bit more daring, s80 is a more conservative car.
Hope claims about the dynamic qualities are true. Hope that Volvo has reduced their bloated turning circles and gets them back down to the 36 to 37 food range. I'll be disappointed if it around 40 or higher.

This is about all most companies offer now. Lexus, generic mud and grey, GM, Ford, the same, but the Mustang, go figure, they offer several interiors.

Are those buttons on the door handles to open the doors? I like the exterior a lot, but it looks too...plain on the inside. Can't describe it, but it looks too flat. And it does not look like an S40 to me. The S40 looks like a pug nose. It looks like it got in front crash because it's smushed. S80 looks elegant.

Volvo has released the first details of its all new S80 saloon prior to its world debut¹ at the 76th International Motor Show in Geneva (2-12 March)The S80 is the largest of Volvo’s S-range of saloons and this second generation S80 offers a competitive alternative to the dominant, German luxury saloon rivals thanks to its own distinctive Scandinavian style, combined with excellent ride and handling characteristics benchmarked against the class leaders.
“We are convinced that the all new Volvo S80 will be a very strong contender in its class and win over many new customers considering the other popular premium brand rivals. We expect to sell 50,000 new S80s a year around the world, of which 70 per cent will be new Volvo customers,” says Frederik Arp, Volvo Cars CEO. “The main markets for the all new S80 will be the USA, Germany, Spain, Sweden, UK and China,” he continued.
Evolutionary Exterior Design
At its launch in 1998 the first generation S80 heralded a bold new design direction for Volvo, which still looks modern today, but now Volvo’s designers have carefully and cleverly evolved Volvo design language to be more youthful and dynamic as well as introducing new Volvo safety technology and powerful new engines – including Volvo’s V8 (315bhp), available with AWD (All Wheel Drive).“The all new S80 is about evolutionary design,” says Steve Mattin, Volvo Cars design director. “All the shapes and materials it uses represent a continuous development of the Volvo design language. World Class Safety – new technology

The two new engines available for the all new S80 will be Volvo’s V8 petrol engine, offering 315bhp and 440Nm of torque, which will be combined with AWD (All Wheel Drive) with Instant Traction™ for maximum traction and driving pleasure. Four catalytic converters and advanced electronics also make it one of the cleanest V8 engines available.The second engine will be a completely new, naturally aspirated 3.2-litre six-cylinder unit delivering 235bhp with 300Nm of torque and like all Volvos will be fitted transversely to provide maximum space and improved crash performance with more space to absorb any impact.
The new engine was designed by Volvo and will be built at the Ford group engine plant in Bridgend, Wales alongside six and eight-cylinder units for other PAG brands, such as Jaguar and Land Rover. My initial worries about the new S80 have been put to rest. I'll take a silver one with a V8 please.

Dislike the shifter. It seems to hard and mechanical, not fluid like the seats and wheel.
Hate the upper part of the dashboard, looks too much like a Lincoln. What's with the hard black plastic. I know it must be cheaper because everyone is doing. But doesn't anyone read reviews at all before they design cars. People aren't fool by imitation materials especially in such a visible area. I don't know why they wouldn't match it with the color of the rest of the interior. It bewilders me.

Isn't the upperpart of the dashboard just left black to make look the rest of it much more thinner, designwise? The current modelline-up have all the one-piece upperpart in the same collor and it looks huge.

The upper dashboard is often a darker color to cut down on glare from the sun.

More something like 320 Nm ??
But maybe it will be enough, we will see in a few month with the first tests.

With the above picture I can now see why people say it's audish. I see an A6 as well. From this angle I actually like the front but I still think from the side the lights look.. I dunno.. fragile. It even seems cgi'd/drawn... oh well
