I was driving home from school this afternoon in my mom's XC90 (she took my S80 today) on Veterans Memorial Drive. This road is a 4-lane no median or center turn lane road, which is very treacherous with people stopping dead from 45mph (the speed limit) to make left turns into strip centers. Anyways, so I am driving with two other people and see someone stop dead to make a left. Naturally, I move over into the right lane before I have to slam on the brakes. I safely get into the right lane and am passing the car making the left. All of the sudden a car pulls out of that strip center to go north (my direction) and starts to come towards me in the right lane even though the left is completely clear. I slam on my brakes, blast my horn, and go into the shoulder (thank goodness that stretch of road has one!) while the car barely misses me. If he would have hit me, it would have been right on the B-pillar driver side ( I was going a little under 45). I was shaking after the whole experience because he kept on coming over! The others in the car were completely shocked in how the car saved us from getting into an accident! Thank goodness for the XC90's RSC, Braking Systems, and DSTC. Luckily I did not have to try the IC or SIPS out! The SUV handled so well to help me dodge the Malibu. I just wanted to share this with y'all and tell why I convinced my parents to buy Volvos, to keep me and my family safe! Volvo: For Life!!!
