I see a black Sky driving around town every so often, it's very low wide and aggressive, dare I say, hot?
I am very impressed by the Saturn's. Very good looking cars. Proportions are dead on, esp. on the Aura
Impressive looking interior too (of course, hard to tell the quality from this picture)
To me the Sky looks better than the Solitice,
Decent looking SUV

Wow...looks nice. And, dare I say, a little Fordish?

Interior looks nice but who knows how it feels. I am sure not the greatest materials.
I also agree the Sky looks way better than the Solstice and the Solstice is, indeed, a VERY NICE car!

These are nothing but GM's regular tricks! Saturn was one the only brands that had it's own identity in the group. Now these cars, at least the first photo and the second one look like rebadged Opels. The first is a Vectra and the second is a Speedster. The third might be the new Frontera, but I'm not sure...

Actually the first one is the Vectra rebadged, but the second one is a real Saturn, it's Opel which rebadged it ;-)The Vectra
The GT

Same underpinnings could be but certainly not rebadged.
Saturns as rebadged Opels can't be anything but great for the brand. Everything they've made up until now had been pretty awful.

In today's automotive world so many cars share platform. The important thing is that Saturn has gone into partnership with Opel to make better cars. Nothing that Saturn has made prior to these cars would even have me look at one of their cars. Not that Opel's were my favorites growing up in Europe either, but I always liked my neighbors Rekord (like this):

GM should have been cannibalizing the Opel/Vauxhall range for years. The new Saturns are the first sexy (non-Corvette) cars they've made in North America since carbs and Hurst shifters were de rigeur.I put 2000 miles on a Vectra 1.2 a couple of years ago; lord knows why they still sell total dross like the Aveo when there are better designs like that in their own portfolio.
A Saturn VX220 Turbo would have been beyond hot.... but too late now.

My Dad had a V8 Opel Kapitan as a company car when we lived in the Canary Islands...terrific car! The 1973 oil crisis took care of doing away with such cars in that part of the world...at least in the moderate-priced segment.

In the nineties, Opels were known to be very unreliable, and have horrible build quality... I don't know what the more recent ones are like though...

This is definitely a good step for Saturn. However, the original question remains:
Why did GM ever bother to create Saturn in the first place? They invested so much money creating the brand, the dealership network, etc. The result was another car-line doing something that Chevy or Pontiac or Buick could do. Yes, the dealerships are supposedly great and friendly...
But all that money could have been spent revamping the pre-existing infrastructure and products at already established brands. These cars up top could be Chevrolets... and GM would have saved time, money, and effort in the process. Instead we have another car brand out there...
The Solstace and the SKY were designed at the same time. Pontiac did the design but they both emerged from the same initial design
The Opel is a rebadged Sky, late to the party

Remember this brand was created in the late 1980s under Roger Smith, probably the WORST CEO that GM ever had.
The idea was good, the execution was purely 1980s GM, the worst

...and maybe Oldsmobile would have still been around.

Seriously, the idea was good, an "out of the box" car co. Just couldn't escape GM's gravity.

Olds was GM's best division when Saturn came out.
