Refined Volvo S60 with sportier profile

The Volvo S60 is being further refined, with the sights firmly set on sharpening the sedan model’s already sporty profile.
“We’re making the S60 even sportier in every respect,” says Gerry Keaney, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service “We’ve both spiced up the design and fine-tuned the chassis to create a car with even greater driving appeal.”

When it comes to design, the front spoiler (option) has been redesigned to get a more pronounced and protruding contour at the bottom. On optional variants the entire front spoiler, including the sills and rear lower bumper, are colour coordinated with the car body. The boot lid can also be specified with a sporty new wing spoiler.
The 2007 model also gets a new grille with a larger and more pronounced Volvo emblem in the form of the classic but rejuvenated iron symbol.
The door mirrors feature integrated side indicators. At the same time, a practical new indicator function is being introduced: Press lightly on the lever and the indicator flashes three times.
Three new exterior colours – Electric Silver, Orinoco Blue and Maple Red – give increased freedom of choice, as do the three new aluminium wheels – Nodus (7x16 inches), Tucana (7.5x17 inches) and Eudora (8x18 inches).

Sportier interior with metal decor trim and twin-tone leather upholstery
The interior has a number of new features, including new Grid Aluminium metal decor panels. These panels are optional and have been designed to create a more three-dimensional impression and tactile feeling. On the column stalks, the air intake controls and the steering wheel, aluminium bright work has been added. The bright work is also included on the new three-spoke sports steering wheel in perforated leather (option).
To further enhance the sporty tone, the instrument panel can be optionally specified with the same type of watch-like instruments introduced in the new Volvo S80 and that were previously the exclusive preserve of Volvo’s sportiest model, the S60 R. Another new option is the interior rear-view mirror with built-in compass.
The range of upholstery has been renewed with a sporty leather upholstery option in two contrasting shades and textures topped with contrasting stitching.

Increased driving pleasure with advanced chassis
In order to highlight the car’s sporty nature out on the road, the standard chassis has been further developed in a number of areas. Firmer shock absorbers and springs front and rear increase the car’s torsional rigidity by about 25 percent. The anti-roll bars are also sturdier than before and the bushes are solid, which together promote a harmonious balance between reassuring road manners and supple ride comfort.
“The further-developed chassis makes the S60 even sportier and more enjoyable to drive without compromising on comfort,” says Gerry Keaney.

Active Bi-Xenon Light – turning headlights
The Volvo S60 can also optionally be equipped with Active Bi-Xenon Light – the moving headlight beams that follow the curve of the road. A mini-processor is used to measure and analyse a number of parameters and optimise the beam pattern accordingly. The headlight beams can be turned up to 15 degrees in either direction, and can thus illuminate a longer stretch of road even in curves.

Not bad...so does this mean the S60 T5 can get the inscription interiors? Or what are these two tone interiors. Are they updating the R in a similar fashion. I'm pondering get rid of my '04 T5 for an R, but would there be a reason for me to consider the 6sp MT T5?

You know, I've always wished that the S60 would do a black window surround, like on the S40's. I love how the windows on the S40 flow as one unit, and it looks great when tinted.

I think the S60 would look great with that design aspect. Something about very noticeable door lines and window lines that get to me.

    versus

    Any one else agree?

Nope - I think the color coded trim is much more elegant & refined looking. Just my $.02

So are those the "projector" headlights? And are they halogen or xenon? Is it the same as the new S80 headlight? I assume it is the "active" steerable lights that are pictured ... Does that mean that "projector lens" thingy swivels left/right? Holy Batman...

I like the way this looks WAY more than I like the look of the next gen S60 (from spyshots i've seen etc)

    That is a BEAUTIFUL car.

These changes should have been integrated into the 2005 facelift. I really like the little front spoiler, the adjustable projector xenons, and I wouldn't mind a little less body roll either. Oh well, I'm happy with my '05

No mention of 4C ? Is it still exclusive to the R model (within the S60 lineup, that is) ?

Best looking Volvo sedan ever. This is what Volvo should have done with the new S80. It looks a lot like my S80's interior, but with some nice touches. My S80 should have had a compass in the mirror. That's a sharp looking car. Except for the steering wheel. It looks like a pair of panties. And with the male symbol there? Wtf. Perverted Swedes...

    Agreed.

I think the best looking Volvo sedan was the 122...this version of the S60 is getting old. I also feel these were changes to have been made in the latest round of revisions. This will simply postpone the next S60.

BUT...major props to Volvo for consistently going out on a limb option and color wise. No other manufacturer in the segment offers color or interior choices like Volvo. Too bad they don't drive like Bimmers.

Unfortunately, many of the exterior colors and the "inscription interiors" are Euro only (not available in the US).

I don't see the Rear Park Assist in these photos.

    The S60 and S80 have:
    + High rear deck lid
+ Oversized front and rear headrests
    + Oversized C-pillars
+ Steeply raked rear window (short vertical)

    Add the following conditions:
    + Fogged-up interior rear windows
    + Frosted rear widows
    + Nighttime darkness
    + Short drivers

Rear camera not much good under many of these conditions.

    Suggestion:
Shouldn't Rear Park Assist (RPA) be Standard and the Navigation System with Rear Camera be the Option.

    Suggestion:
Shouldn't DSTC be Standard, given the New, more powerful, 3.2liter I6 engine and Transversly mounted engines?

    Do you mean like this:

BTW I hope we can easily upgrade our mirrors with the turning signal. Seems like the base, mirror and -hopefully- most of the electronics have remained the same. Only the cap and the turning light itself seem to be added (like the S40/V50).

    Any suggestions?

can someone tell me if the remodelled car has an ashtray/ cointray. I know someone with a 01 S60 T5 and his model doesnt have these. (not having them seem like a draw back)

  22. 05-09-2006 06:55 PM #22
    They didn't change the dash.

  23. 05-09-2006 10:27 PM #23
Is that little ring of aluminum trim on the lower spoke of the steering wheel the only interior change?

  24. 05-10-2006 10:01 PM #24
    Aside from the watchdial instruments.
