Re: SRS - AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT (barrysharp)
Sad news I'm afraid. Also I must apologise as this issue was with my MY2003 XC70 which has a similar equipment level as my S60R so presumably applies to it as well - so thought it appropriate to post here to share the experience.
An update...
So car was operating without problem last Friday after picking car up from my dealership who made repairs on the "SRS-Airbag Service Urgent" display issue. The car was used every day since then, driven some 250 miles without any issues and with one fuel tank fill up and today it all broke lose again with my wife driving the car around town some. After extracting all of the grundgy details from my wife here's what I've come up with.
1. Wife started car today after it being parked in garage all night. The car was fully functional and without any issues as she drove it some 30 miles to her destination. As she was starting to locate a parking place she noticed a complete blackout on the driver's dash display - speedometer not working, tach not working fuel gauge not working, temp gauge not working, odometer not working(blank), indicator green arrows not working but indicator lights were, radio working, climate control system working, electric windows working and headlights working.
2. Wife found parking place and parked car. Turned engine off and exited the car. The remote would not lock the car so she manually locked it.
3. Wife returned to car some 45 mins later and was able to open it with remote fob Unlock button. Engine was started and ALL the driver's dash displays were fully operational EXCEPT that now the "SRS-Airbag Service Urgent" was now displaying in the computer readout display.
4. At some time after starting the car (wife believes it was quite soon after) the driver's dash display went blank as before with absolutely nothing registering nor displayed.
5. Wife tried to get hold of me but I had left my Cell at home and I was tooling around town and was completely out-of-touch.
6. Wife was very nervous about driving the car knowing that Airbags were inoperative and there was no telling what speed she was driving nor if the engine was overheating etc etc etc. (Lesson learned here is to have the Volvo dealership's phone number in glove box for such occasions)
7. Wife drove car to another location near to home (some 30 miles), stopped and turned engine off and was able to lock car using the remote Lock button.
8. Wife returns to car and it unlocks with Remote and everything is in complete working order but still with the "SRS-Airbag Service Urgent" message being displayed.
9. Wife gets home and parks in garage and tells me her story.
10. I use my Remote to start car and drive it about some and all is working correctly with the sole exception of the "SRS-Airbag Service Urgent" being displayed.
At this point it's pretty darn clear to me that Volvo service last Friday messed things up and that it being a coincident is just too far fetched IMO.
This is very disappointing (mildly speaking now) and will now have to spend time again getting this problem resolved.
I'm wondering if this had been an out of warranty repair last Friday would I now be on the hook to get this follow-on problem resolved.
