Pope Benedict XVI has received a new Volvo XC90 that has been custom tailored for his personal use. During a June 28 ceremony at the Vatican, the Pope was presented with the keys to the SUV. The V8 version vehicle is dark blue with a light interior and Volvo officials say the car, like every Volvo XC90, is designed for safety with features like ROPS (rollover protection system).

I wonder if he could slap a V8 in his pope-mobile. That would be sweet.

Doesn't ROPS stand for "Really Opulent Pontiff Sled"?

Kudos to Volvo for landing such a nice account...

Does this mean than Volvo offers armored versions of its V8 XC90? I knew that BMW and Audi did on the X5 and Q7, but I didn't know about Volvo.

I guess he does not need the nav system on his new ride. He just consults with a higher source.

Interesting that it's a 06 model and not an 07.

I did notice that the Pope and I did get the same RSE package! Great minds....perhaps not!

I doubt that they paid for it (the Vatican, that is).

"We are absolutely happy and proud of the opportunity we had to present an XC90 to the Pope. Safety has always been a no-compromise must for Volvo; no doubt, our strong commitment to safeguard lives could not get a higher and more touching recognition", said Pascal Bellemans, President Volvo Auto Italia.

Nice looking vehicle, for sure. I doubt it's destined for use as a Popemobile, more likely a Vatican PopeShuttle.

Any of you notice that little gadget plugged in the car adapter of the rear center console??... and the reading light above the Pope's head?
